Amusing comment from another chess group
Friends, I'm a chess book collector as well as a tabletop/dedicated collector, and I belong to an FB group that discusses books. The other day I posted a picture of my old Excellence, along with Super Connie, and suggested it might be amusing to bring it to my chess club and let all the young bullet...

Re: A true relic: CYBER CHESS
jarek said this five+ years ago: According to my research, there were 75 amateur and 74 professional game packs produced. Each game pack contains a total of 4 chess games and (occasionally) endgames. I can confirm this tally, having recently gained access to a deceased collector's carefully curated ...

Re: What I want from new dedicated boards
...i do think though that online play is here to stay ..in fact it seems that "in this ever changing world in which we live in" .. more folks will move to living entirely in a virtual world and leave the offline world behind..a movement toward total " Matrix" Yeah, all the young...

What I want from new dedicated boards
I know online connectivity is all the rage, and I know all the new boards do it, and it's mandatory, so fine -- but I just like to play offline out of the box. I have the Centaur and the King Performance. I like them. After looking at Square Off, I'm not so interested, so I won't go for it. I like t...

Millennium needs a Kittinger engine
Surely this isn't hard. I would *instantly* buy a Millennium module or download that gives me a range from Super Connie to CM 3000 to Star Diamond to WChess, and I would play the hell out of it. I have several Novag machines and old Kittinger programs. I love them, but they're so temperamental.

"The ungrateful machine is smashing my king!"
This is very amusing. Does anyone know which robot is playing in the vid?

Just jumping in on this ancient thread. I own Fritz for DS, and it's clear that you have to muck around with the time controls to make it play a decent game. Once you do that, it's a respectable program. More testing would be needed against dedicateds with known ratings to get a clearer sense of its...

Thanks for the feedback. But it is actually possible to beat it correct? Has anybody here beat it before? I just want to know if it is possible. Of course it's possible. Other comps can beat it. You've beaten it, though you had to tune it down. I own a few Novags (not this particular model, but sim...

For sale
Friends, Apologies for the tacky post. I'm selling three boards. Two are duplicates. One is a minor rarity that I just don't play. Have not posted these elsewhere. Send me PMs if you care, and I'll send photos. Here's the list: 1. Saitek RISC 2500 - this is version 1.02. Fully functional. LEDs nice ...

This is turning into an interesting thread. I own the Systema Challenge, though I haven't messed with it lately. As a novice tuner, I'm curious about something: There seems to be little interest in modifying the settings related to doubled pawns and rooks on open/half-open files. If I'm reading the ...

Thinking of all of you -- let's post some games
I want all of you silly people to know I'm thinking of you and the many debates and chats we have here that give me joy. We're having a global moment. Be smart, stay safe and we'll weather this freakout. We have the perfect hobby to pass the time. It's a good chance to post some games. I'll start. H...

Fidelity Excellence (4Mhz) vs Grenadier
I couldn't resist. I saw this listing for the 4mhz version and had to go for it. It was a risk -- the seller had no feedback to speak of -- but the picture of the little red sticker on the box called to me. For 21 USD, I call it a bargain: https://ebay.to/2SVNWCz This model (EP12) was my first dedic...

Kasparov111 said: what book setting did you have it at? Don't have a fidelity so can't comment with accuracy. The D2325 defaults to its tournament book. Supposedly it has a 28,000 move library. In this game, and generally, I don't make adjustments. I might have to try this game again and set the opt...

Fidelity Designer 2325/Mach IV losing like a child
Are horizon effects really this decisive? I'm sort of shocked by this game. D2325 is set to 30s/move, presumably enough time to play decently. I'm just testing its book, meaning I'm not inventing White's moves. 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.O-O Nxe4 [fen]r1bqkb1r/1ppp1ppp/p1n5/4p3/B3n3/5N2/...
