Re: Novag Obsidian or Mephisto MasterChess
Any comments on the pros & cons of the subject chess computers? Playing styles etc. Is one to be preferred over the other or just a matter of tast? Jaimes Give me the Master Chess anytime over the Obsidian. The master has a better display, with easy configurable options and of course outrates t...

Re: Help Please…choosing a dedicated chess machine.
Playing options and features are more important to me than strength which should be 1800elo max. I have contemplated Alexandra by Excalibur because of it’s elo rating and physical size but it lacks my wish list of: Change play styles, book opening options, selective or brute force, change piece val...

Re: Help Please…choosing a dedicated chess machine.
When I travel I like to play a game of chess. I have a laptop with chess software installed but do not particularly like looking at a flat screen to play. Playing options and features are more important to me than strength which should be 1800elo max. I have contemplated Alexandra by Excalibur beca...

From a biased perspective, I would say that the difference is that Rybka plays a noticeably higher percentage of correct moves than Hiarcs, and this is reflected by the large rating difference now. :-) From an unbiased perspective, I cannot really say regarding Rybka 3, as I have not seen these gam...

Re: Advice on the best move in this position
Analysis with Hiarcs12 suggests Bb2xNf6 which is probably the better move. Now after gxf6 H12 wants to take the Knight on c6. d5xc6. I much prefer d5xBe6.Why am I wrong? A good way to know why a move is better than another (Provided that you believe the engine's score) is to actually play the move, and ask for the engine's score on the incoming moves. Sometimes this is worse than letting Infinite Analysis to run unattended when the engine doesn't understand the pos...
