SC9, why get 10 of them?

At first I was not aware of their delicate surface problem And I had this dream of sharing these with local high school players Thought chess players could pool their ideas, and together beat the sc9 Instead of playing each other Also collected the cc8 for this reason, they are more dependable. My l...

Sc9 is a neat little computer I have about 10 in my collection Most have the playing surface fault at times, especially during the winter I have not been to fix them except for using hair dryer on low, prior to game, for about a minute, about a foot above the surface. Often, during game, that sensor...

I prefer the mk-2 It is the most spirited, neatest sounding of them all To set level press F enter, then 8 for 1-3 min, 7, 6 etc then enter To remove its queen, B enter, then press enter over and over until an 8 shows up, then press clear, then enter again and again until the dashes reappear CC-700 ...

Fascinating reading in Wikipedia about 7400 series logic chips, DIPs etc. So I am guessing that the earlier circuit boards used separate EPROMs and logic chips, both of which could malfunction. Also that by the example given, ie an end game analysis, one could determine what the error could be...but...

My understanding is that these EPROMs have a finite life span that most people believe may be 25 to 50 years. Also that these EPROMs can be reprogrammed to extend life another 50 years. I read about new self repairing Eproms! I do not know about copy rights, and other complicated issues, but believe...

EPROM duplication ?

In reading about the life span of our EPROMs I have become more concerned about preservation of these chess computers. Some are more delicate and perhaps we should be doing more now. Just what to do I do not know, but I read about EPROM copying devices that may help. Which models are most vulnerable...

I have been excited by this example, for the simple machines seem to play it better! Both shredder (ipad) and another similar program could not play Qb3! (in over an hour) But the old fidelity dedicateds play it easily. The S9 plays Qb3 in 3 minutes, the design 2000 5 minutes, and the design (displa...

mephisto module ac-dc transforers

I have a few modules now, and have several exclusive boards but unable to figure the ac-dc adaptors. So far the adaptors (220 volt prongs) are hard to come by, so I have been using batteries. Does anyone have experience with 8 bit modules use with common USA ac-dc ? How about the 16 bit modules, (my...
