IRC still exists?? Amazing!....When I first went online about 12 years ago, I was curious about online chat rooms. They tend to consist of the same things: Small talk, mutual loathing, vulgarity, and, of course, cybersex.

Chess Books etc...

Here is a list of my favorite chess books. I enjoy using these books to set up positions for my various chess engines to solve; e.g. White/Black to play and win, or White/Black to mate in X number of moves. My Best Games of Chess - A. Alekhine (if some genie were to grant me the ability to play like...

Very sad is the fact that, apart from a "revenge match" against Boris Spassky, Fischer retired from chess after the first match with Spassky in 1972. Dr. Tarrasch's book of his best games contains 300 games. If such a book by Fischer existed, it might contain 85 games. This is a tragedy. R...

Without hazarding a guess as to the score of the match, I'm going to give Benjamin the nod. Why? Because computers have no conception of "long-range planning" in chess. Tactically computers may be perfect, but a "good plan" in unknown to them. Any strong grandmaster, properly pre...

Three cheers for the Spracklens! :D Years ago, I can remember being quite surprised at the strength of Sargon II on my friend's Apple IIe. :) I'd love to see an updated Sargon for PC with a Spracklen program's typical playing style. regards Mike "Chess, like love, like music, has the power to m...

Re: Garde Chess Clocks

My brother had a Garde analog clock for many years, until it was stolen at a tournament. :( We played many, many five-minute games with it and it always worked reliably. A very high quality chess clock! regards Mikey p.s. In the U.S., Jerger chess clocks were very popular and were considered a statu...
