I remember that several of us were waiting anxiously for our Rev ll's to arrive from Ruud(Pheonix Technologies) ..and this guy Jonas posts that he just got his from DGT by ordering off the web site..no waiting ..no muss..no fuss..he stumbles in off the street and with a few clicks of the mouse buys...

my only point was that the housing of the unit itself could be designed a bit better to hide the electronics I feel obliged to clarify: There is no hardware design, Picochess is a software product only. Users buy their own hardware (mac, PC, Odroid or Raspberry Pi computer) and install the software...

You got me, I took it at face value. Good one, I feel silly. :)

Picochess can run a variety of engines, the Stockfish engine included is just a default. One can easily install and play a weaker one. This renders your it's-too-strong objections against Picochess invalid. (I refrained from using "silly.") With respect, -Izmet P. S. There was a time when ...

But yes, I do get your point. Nothing beats plug & play. It is a far away goal for Picochess. There were talks last year with DGT (featuring Shivkumar Shivaji, Jean, Francois Romang, Ben Bulsink and myself) to invest additional programming resources into the project, but since recent change in D...

Re: Dedicated computers vs PC, PICOCHESS, GAVON

works with revelation ii but not with bluetooth DGT board, Herein lies a big chunk of Picochess problems and bugs. One never switches hardware on the dedicated units, the are what they are and they stay sthe same. On the other hand, Picochess is running on original Raspberry Pi, model B and model I...

Arena GUI will not run on a mac natively. Your best (free) bet is ChessX GUI, it runs on most platforms.

You can then probably run Komodo within ChessX. Can't vouch for this though, never tried it.

Picochess on DGT 3000

The newest clock from DGT makes for a nicer playing experience on Picochess machines. The DGT 3000 has a bit more modern look, wider display and some additional (USCF approved) modes. Love the color.

Main difference is in handling the databases. HCE loads it's databases (PGN only) into memory first, only then one can use them. This means there's a wait when loading a dbase with half a million games. After that, there's no indexing or anything, the machine munches the data quite fast. ChessBase o...

While not a "dedicated" computer, a DGT USB Board driven by PicoChess running on a Raspberry Pi comes very close to this experience at a somewhat reasonable cost when compared to the TASC & RevII (under $1k USD). Thoughts? I scout local chessclubs for broken DGT serial boards (only se...

I believe a set of the beautiful eastern BCE would have been more appropriate for such a prestigious event. I wish. :) However, the games are actually played with Studio Anne Carlton WC set, designed by Danny Weil of Pentagram. A very fine set also. http://www.designweek.co.uk/news/daniel-weil-rede...

Look again. Carlsen's set (on main photo http://www.sochi2014.fide.com) is a horrid mix of low-budget pieces.

I guess it's an intentional joke. Norvegian humor I don't get.
