Re: Refuting an opening ?

Rather than talking about the number of moves, it's easier to work in terms of the number of pieces left on the board. At the moment we do have a definitive WDL through exhaustive search for all positions with seven or fewer pieces left on the board: See the table at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/En...

Re: Come and get it! HCE Pro is finally here!

Is the new HCE Pro finally a native Mac Apple Silicon / Universal binary App or still requires Rosetta2 like HCE to run on a M1 Mac? Beta tester here... It is still an Intel app. I haven't run into any issues on both M1 and M1 Pro machines - the GUI is fast and smooth. On the new MBPs the combinati...

Re: Nextgen HCE features

There’s also so much low-quality stuff in the MegaDatabase (which is hard to clean when the database management is so bad!). They keep adding more and more blitz online games instead of cleaning up the mess. Incredible. I don't see this changing any time soon, tbh. 1) Pulling in the online games bo...

Re: Nextgen HCE features

Sure, you can (and should!) use HCE on both your desktop and laptop, as long as you don't do it simultaneously. ..Which is hardly a limitation, since I can't think of a practical situation where you would want to do so. Ok, you can view two games at once, but then you have two separate databases wh...

Re: Nextgen HCE features

Really looking forward to this, I've been waiting for years for a good Mac-native product that supports large databases. Goodbye Scid! Quick question if I may. Will the licence allow use on two Macs (desktop & laptop), both for personal use of course. Thanks The EULA in the current Beta reads t...

Re: Nextgen HCE features

I can't say I like those spindly new arrows in Fritz 18 - they seem out of proportion with everything else.

Re: Nextgen HCE features

Maybe I'm a little too negative after waiting for 6 long years, but the competition never sleeps: www.chessquid.com Better publish now or leave it altogether forever. hope dies last... https://www.reddit.com/r/chess/comments/r13ei9/chessquid/ I bought the pro version as soon as it came out and I im...

Re: Nextgen HCE features

Only squares can be highlighted and arrows drawn. This is what is supported by PGN (not sure if this is official, but that's what other programs support). We didn't want to introduce highlights which would not be compatible with other software. Unfortunately there isn't a truly "official"...

Re: Nextgen HCE features

I am testing Hiarcs Pro and I am thrilled. Searching in Megabase 2021 in seconds alone is fantastic. It was worth the wait. Yes, the speed both of converting Megabase to HCE format and of searching thereafter is remarkable. Considering all the nonsense with Chessbase itself - rebuild search booster...

Re: Making HIARCS compatible with Chessify cloud engines

All the windows cloud engine is (or ought to be) doing is translating between UCI commands and whatever Web Services API is being used to provide the cloud engine. Since the cloud engine service needs a login to work, Chessify wouldn't lose anything by providing documentation to other developers so ...

Re: Nextgen HCE features

There is discount possible - check on Facebook or Twitter ;-) Indeed... but 10% off to buy a pig in a poke? Pass. Even on the Pro version that's only €10. To pre-order I'd need a lot more hard information on features. Does it load CBH? What about printing support? E-board support? How about a sampl...

Re: Nextgen HCE features

Maybe I'm a little too negative after waiting for 6 long years, but the competition never sleeps: www.chessquid.com Interesting to see another team enter the market. They seem rather ambitious to ask for pre-orders though. There’s no discount for pre-ordering so why would I order now instead of wai...

It's difficult to compare because the size of the icons in your sample doesn't match the size on my screen. Overall they look perhaps a little less jagged but that is because of more softness. They don't look crisp like the pieces on the board do.

I can confirm the same on my M1 MacBook Pro. The icons are pixel doubled up on retina. If I drag the app onto my non-retina 1440p monitor, they look the way I would expect them to look. I think this might be a product of the older Qt version used for 1.x series - adding Retina support (or HiDipi as ...
