I think I read somewhere that it is a modified version of the Stockfish 9 engine. In one game in which I played it in "expert" mode against another engine, it scored a win for itself in a pawn + wrong color bishop ending, in which the opponent's king controlled the queening square on h1. I...

This approach to moving its own pieces seems to me like it should be way less vulnerable to mechanical failure. The fear of mechanical failure is what kept me from even considering purchasing previous models that moved their own pieces.

The Regium definitely sound appealing!

Thanks for the replies.

The Centaur scored an drawn endgame position of a king + h file pawn + wrong square colored bishop versus a lone king as a win. Of course, Stockfish 10 immediately recognizes this as a draw. If it's really the Stockfish 10 engine, than some knowledge must have been stripped.

Does anyone know about how strong the Centaur is on "Expert" mode?

Re: Collecting Chess computers - FUN!

Ha Ha. I love your "cure," Doctor Fernando. Not sure you're going to find any takers on here though. :)

Ok, thanks!

I guess I'll see for myself. I finally went ahead and ordered one. :)

Thank you for the review. What would be your opinion on how well the Centaur would function as a referee board for a game between two people? Such as keeping patzers from accidentally putting their own king into check during a blitz time scramble? :-) Can it track time for both sides and could the p...

You are right of course. I was a big fan of the playing style of the old Fidelity Mach III. (Now long gone for me.) I used to play it against my Novag Super C (whose book seemed to be a bit rigged against the Fidelity machine.) :-) The Fidelity would sometimes surprise by spotting a tricky mate. Pre...

Thanks for sharing this very interesting (if one-sided) match. The bludgeoning result makes me wonder what I'm missing. Would it not be possible for Richard Lang to simply use a cheap processor that would be compatible with Stockfish? It would surely be way stronger than the King.

Thanks! The "Wiki-Elo-Liste En" show a rating of 2192 for the RISC 2500 as per the SSDF list.

So according to this, the MCG - at this point - is trending just a tiny bit under the RISC 2500. (Perhaps a bit more at faster time controls)

Sorry if I missed it somewhere, but have there been enough games played with the MCG to get a pretty good idea of its rating?

I think it was viewed by some as being about the strength of the Saitek RISC 2500. Does that sound about right?

At this point I can only find two of the games. Split 1-1 at 5 seconds per move level. (The RS 2150 doesn't properly play game in (number) minutes level, so that's not a good test.)

Maybe I'll run some games between the two just for anyhow and report the results here.

I have the Alexandra but never played with it much. "Aktiv" rates it at 1651. (As compared to 1780 for the Fidelity Excellence 3 MHz) I think this would make it weaker than even the Radio Shack 2150. But in the few games I've played between the Alexandra and the 2150, the Alexandra seemed ...

Thanks Steve.

Beings that a fairly worn-looking Designer Mach III with its shift light not working recently went for $375.00 on eBay, I wonder why this isn't attracting attention? I'd assume this model, with lights on every square, would typically sell for more than the Designer edition.
