That's good! Don't underestimate this. Better you play your Monte Carlo yourself than watching the moves of two computers for hours. If you do that at least once a week you'll soon get stronger.

Test: How active is your electronic chessboard?

Many years ago I read in a book on chess computers the author's proposal how you can test in a simple way the degree of activity your chess computer has. He proposed to move only one piece to and fro as long as possible yet let the computer play normally. For instance, if you are White: 1. Nf3 d5 2....

Re: Chess computer collection?Quality,not quantity!

But I will never sell, never! For if I sell,I will probably never be able to get another one.Collectors rarely sell them, they keep them.Even if offered $10,000 for both,I would say NO!!!! I'm 60 years old and need to cherish a few things in life.I have my pensions coming in a few years and will live ...

A board computer, as it would pleasure me, should have the following features:

- be as strong as the Atlanta :)
- be of the size and the design of the Atlanta :D
- must not cost more than the Atlanta

(hehe)
... and since I have an Atlanta already, I don't need another one. Clever, what?

Re: Only way to make chess popular

How to  improve chess in the media... My proposals: 1) Get the interest of the wives of rich men and you will have chess in the yellow press. Yet I'm afraid that will never happen. I think this one of the few things that are really impossible. Wives of rich men want to display themselves and...

As far as I understood your posting, you seem 1) to have some problems in adjusting the playing strenghts of your "President" and "Präsident", apparently two computers of the same make, and 2) you wonder why the two computers do not play equally in same positions. Question Number...

Oh, I'm sorry, I made a mistake. After 27. Be4! the black queen can't of course flee safely to b1 any longer. So, only a6 is left as asylum.

US-Chess-Championship 2015

I'm a bit curious about how Mr. Kamsky is going to play. After all, he is a former prodigy, but now a business economist or something similar and has a hundred elo-points less than his opponent, Mr. Nakamura. We will see.

Re: Which dedicated was best at rook endings?

The losing error came later: [fen]8/8/8/8/6R1/K1p5/3kr3/8 w - - 2 65[/fen] 65. Rg1 is forced, but Star Diamond played 65. Rd4+ losing. Did any of the old computer chess journals do rook and pawn ending tests on the best computers? The Mephisto Atlanta is known to be not as good at rook endings as t...

Is the Mephisto Atlanta a pawn-catcher?

Hi everyone, a few days ago I happened to read a test position for the Mephisto Atlanta, a chess computer, which seems to be well known at this forum. The position appeared in the game Ljubojevic-Karpov in 1988 during the Roquebrune rapid, possibly a blitz tournament, I don't know. The complete game...
