Lukas as I said before come and visit don't sit in your cluster room. Sjeng played on a 12 core cluster against Hiarcs and lost btw. If you really think people can afford to buy a cluster like yours you do not live in the real world. Anyway luckily the decision will not be yours. I live in the real...

I believe tournament matches between programs should be about the 'software'; hardware (and other outside influences) should not be a factor. I guess they should also be played with neutral books? Thanks Dylan :) Now we should point the big gun to the Russians ;) Regards, Lukas p.s. congrats Hiarcs...

Well, maybe you should read what professor Hiatt has found out about cluster Rybka: http://www.talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24807 Maybe he is right and I'm wasting all that energy just to accelerate climate change?

I feel guilty regards,

Be ready for the showdown ;)
In that game the better book might prevail.

My cluster is ready regards,

Do you know what happened to Rybka? My logfiles say we only had 8 games, 6 of them should be a win and 2 draws. Did we loose on time?

Best regards,

Rybka's hardware

Thanks for the nice coverage, and congratulations with with Hiarcs results. Like last year it looks like Hiarcs will do very well and must be among the favorites to give Rybka a run for her life. Not easy if Rybka like rumored is running on 40 cores! The rumors are true. Rybka is running on 5 8 cor...

Thank you Harvey for posting that CB guy's reply (was that Mathias, the programmer of the GUI?) I always knew that Rybka is a memory hog on 8 cores, but I didn't make real tests. There are 2 ways to save memory. I use only 1 MB for TB cache - TBs are on solid state disks, so no cache is necessary. ...

Only the single processor version is free. So there are some engines like Hiarcs 12 mp and Zappa Mexico 64 that are stronger.

If he doesn't want to play chess (neither Rybka nor Zappa) 64 bit is not necessary. So any CPU will do and Windows XP (32 bit) will be best.

Dell is relatively cheap - quality is mediocre. I've got a Dell Laptop myself.
Main question is: what does he want to do with that computer? Chess? 3d shooters? Office?
