Re: About programs in H8 processor

the work of Franz Huber came to complement the dreams of many enthusiasts, with his 440 Mess Chess emulations of old machines Hello, Almost all of the emulation is from MAME, the chess computer emulation was created by a handful of programmers. It's not solely Franz's work. About H8: Never say neve...

Yeah, fhub posted the correct link to CB-Emu.
CB-Emu is based on MAME, that's where the chesscomputer emulation cores are from. The projects are not merged.

kamoj conchess

Hi Lars, I'm not a regular member here at all but let me say anyway: welcome to the forum. I saw in the other thread that you worked on the Conchess series in the 1980s. It would be off-topic to reply there, so let me open a new thread instead. And I hope other people are interested too to know more...

Although on the outside it looks similar to Constellation. Super Connie hardware is very different, and you can't put the ROM chips into the Constellation. It won't work.

Super Constellation: 4KB RAM, 64KB ROM
Constellation: 2KB RAM, 16KB ROM.

Yeah, it's the SPARC module. Saitek Leonardo/Renaissance emulation would need to be finished first, and then the modules. Unfortunately, "Mr. Hubner" won't be able to deliver it in his emulation package, unless someone else writes the low level emulation first. See for example: https://git...

This LCD screen in Simultano and later Saitek chesscomputers uses an Epson SED1502F, 7 address pins and 8 data pins. https://www.digchip.com/datasheets/parts/datasheet/922/SED1500-pdf.php It acts kind of like a small RAM chip, so that part should be easy to imitate on a microcontroller. Redoing the ...

Nice writeup! It's not commonly known, that Novag Savant actually has 2 processors. AFAIK it is the 1st multi-processor chess computer. It has a 6MHz Z80 and a 4MHz Fairchild 3870. The 3870 is responsible for handling the buttons, touchscreen, LCD, and sound. The chess calculations are done on the Z...

Delta-1 binary data has nothing in common with Chess Partner 2000 or Pocket Chess (both Mike Johnson). I forgot the possibility of multiple people working on the programming. One person for the I/O and interface, another person for the chess engine. For example, the the user interface programmer for...

It is unlikely that Delta-1 is based on MK I. They were in the middle of a copyright-infringement lawsuit for copying the MK I program from CompuChess.

Actually if you do a binary compare between Delta-1 and Boris Diplomat you'll find they're very similar. They're probably by the same author.

Very interesting observations here! =) Did Ron only port some of the functions to 8080, or the whole chess engine? FYI, CC3 ROM was dumped by Sean Riddle yesterday and the chess program is indeed identical to the 3-lvl cartridge for Intellect-02. With Intellect-02 they did some minor changes, such a...

Sure, you can send me the link via PM =)

Does the "Great Game Machine" have any rom chips itself? If not, it will be possible to emulate this Boris with just the GGM Boris ROM. And if you have any other GGM cartridge roms, even better.

Getting back to Boris, here are annotated dissasemblies by Sean Riddle. The 2nd revision was recently dumped by him. You can see it has a lot more messages.

uCOM-4 MCU family is emulated in MAME, it's written by me: https://github.com/mamedev/mame/blob/master/src/devices/cpu/ucom4/ucom4.cpp However, with these chips it's very hard to read out the internal ROM contents, yovan won't be able to dump the ROM. I know someone who can, but that person is very ...

Hi, if anyone is interested - I've just released a new (final) version of CB-Emu. I've implemented lots of new chess modules since Fernando created this thread - in total it contains now 128 modules. That's great work and all, but please give credit where credit is due. It kind of sounds like you'r...
