There exists an easier way to get the info. Use SCID. 1) Boot your computer and hook the Citrine to it. I had to get a serial to USB converter from Radio Shack. 2) Set up the Citrine and turn it on. 3) Click Tools -> Connect Hardware -> Configure 4) type in the com port # that you are connected to s...

In 1991, a ply was worth about 200 Elo. The general ply to rating correlation was 4 ply = 1400, 5 = 1600, 6 = 1800 ... However, the base value for 4 ply varies from computer to computer based on how much knowledge is in the position evaluator. Some of the old computers lacked pawn structure knowledg...

Novag Citrine version ID - instructions here
Looking through manuals, I found a way to get the Novag Citrine's ID from it. You can plug the Citrine into a PC and direct access it through Microsoft's HyperTerminal. At that point, you can type commands on your PC that go to the Citrine and get responses from it. You can type any of the Novag pro...

Hi Larry, I think you are looking at it incorrectly? It is black's move and the black rook is on a2. I don't see how a black rook on a2 attacks h5. The bad move is Rxa5 which leads to RxR then PxR and white has a win. This position came up in a game. Given that it happened, it means that it was cons...

Tough position for old slow comps - also dedicated units
Ran into this position on ICC when Rookie was playing Telepath. At first, I thought it was a bug, but I found several other programs find it difficult. An old version of Crafty (20.14) doesn't see the correct move after several minutes on my i7 920 OCd to 4GHz. Zappa 1.1 takes 19 play and wouldn't h...

Help: Citrine Wood Repair
Three of the side panels on my Citrine have pulled away. I've glued them before but it doesn't last. Does anybody have a suggestion on a good way to stick them back without discoloring the thin panels?

Help: Chess Challenger Sensory 8
A guy walks into the Chess club and hands me the CCS8 and says "I don't want this; you can have it". Of course, I took it. At home, I tested it with batteries and it works fine. But, it does seem to chew up the power from batteries. Can anybody tell me the specifications for a power adapte...

ICC to Playchess.com relay
In 2008, somebody relayed the 2008 Pan Am CC from ICC to playchess.com. I thought it was rather neat. I need to know who did it and how so it can be done again.

Rasem Frakem Catalog with Dedicated Machines in it
So, the USCF sends me their 2013 catalog and like dummy I flipped through it. I get to page 110 (I knew I should have stopped by page 30) and there are pictures of dedicated machines and what do I see: Novag Citrine - I have one. I love it. Especially, connecting to a PC to play my engines. Saitek M...
