Thanks Steve... yes I actually tend to be very pragmatic, and like you, don't use guesses as facts. I'm trying to separate speculation from guesses, which at this point is hard to do. Fidelity did not help in that they seem to have used a somewhat random method of assigning serial numbers. But that ...

For those interested, here are a couple more pictures. It seems I am missing the upper styrofoam insert... I didn't realize there was supposed to be one at first. You can see the condition of the box, which is unfortunately taped, is stained, and has two tears (on the back). So, far from the best I'...

i am not a big fan of drawing cincusions based upon guess work and assumptions Sorry Steve, I seem to have hit a nerve. I also don't expect conclusions based on guesswork, but was interested in the current state of the guesswork.... since it is mostly what we have at this point. And I was also aski...

not sure where you heard that only 100 are in working condition today? i dont think that's correct my guess would be at least 3x-5x that amount but thats just a guess i do know that only 1000 were produced by Fidelity before they upgraded to the CC3 Thanks, Steve! As for the number of units, I had ...

My first CC1!

For the past few years, I've been searching for a Chess Challenger 1. I just missed a couple incomplete sets, but was surprised to find this almost complete set... minus only the warranty card I think... with a BIN price of only $74.95, plus $10 shipping. So of course I grabbed it. I know the price ...

1979 Popular Mechanic Article, Chess Comp Face-Off

I put this link at the end of another topic, but I thought I would post it in a new one so anyone interested will see it. It is a 1979 article comparing the Chess Challenger 10, the Boris, the CompuChess II, and the Chess Champion computers of the time. Link to download article: http://www.santa-col...

For your data bank: A little tournament between Boris and CC10 was organized by magazine Popular Mechanics, in those years of course. I remember well the issue. CC10 showed to be superior in everything, perhaps 50-100 elo stronger. Popular regards Fernando I found the article... it is in the May 19...

Wooden Chess Comp at I. Magnin in 1978?

I wrote to Tom Luif, who has the excellent site on chess computers, about a question I had (Hi, Tom... if you're reading this post). I thought I would run it by you guys, in case you had an answer for me. About the fall/winter of 1978 I was in the I. Magnin department store in San Francisco. They ha...

I Think Sparcklen meant the CC3 when she says the second chess challenger was already out i know for a fact certain that the CC3 was programmed by Ron Nelson the same programmer as the CC1 and the programmer of the original Boris( David Lindsey )had nothing to do with the CC3 i have also seen a 197...

...the CC3 was released only a few months after the CC1 and both of these were definitely in 1977 i think Boris hit the market in early 1978 i have read this interview before but do not see specificially where in the interview that these dates are contradicted? Hi, Steve: Not specifically contradic...

1)CC3 was released in 1977 with both Boris and the CC10 IN 1978 all very close to each other in time I've heard this before, but from an article by the developers of both Boris and CC3, it sounds like it was CC1>Boris>CC3 Here is a link to the article: http://archive.computerhistory.org/projects/ch...
