I think we are a long way away from the days when the engines were not tested enough that the programmers would know what the strongest settings were and make them the defaults.

If you know a way to improve on Hiarcs' evaluation, you should probably be doing your own engine.

In reality, I wouldn't mind seeing Rybka "dethroned" at all--and if it is by some new 128-node version of Hydra, so much the better, especially if the 40-node version of Rybka is involved. The quality of the games that would result would be supreme, and there would be new motivation for f...
