Well, you have no right to complain. You cannot compare the excitement and fun of seeing a dog making some shit to a chess computer.

The dog that shits or pisses on my dedicated chess computer would end ass kicked outside the house.

Hi All

Back in 9/21 i posted in this thread that i hit 1 Million views for my chess computer collection page on Flicker
Today the total is 1,117,000 views
a modest increase in the past 22 months

a typical daily view count is around 12-25 views but i notice occasionally there is an enormous spike in the views for the day
for example on 7/3/23 there were 558 views,7/8/23-359 views and 7/15/23-289 views

i was wondering what could be the cause of these unusual spikes?
its hard for me to believe that suddenly 558 Flicker members decided to visit my page all on the same day
i think it might have something to do with Spam bots accessing the page?

any ideas would be appreciated

Hello Steve,

Perhaps 3 fantastic auctions with a link to your site ?
Do you have statistics about pages used ?
Or somebody said that you would like to sold your collection and hit the 2 million views ;-)

Cordially.

Hi MyChess.. MyFriend

Auction links to my site seems like a reasonable explanation
Thanks For that idea

As for page stats..nothing in particular stands out except i did notice that occasionally photos of my Mephisto Excalibur seem to get alot of views on the days that spike...

Well, Steven, my friend, one million visits in so many years could be considered a failure if you do not take into account the quality of the visits. I believe chess fans are somewhat smarter than the guys looking the dog defecating on the piano, although sometimes I am not so sure. BTW, I tried in my YT channel to get more visits with one of my cats pissing over me and I really got some extra visits, but somehow the experience did not satisfy me.

wiping the feline experience with a towel regards

Steve,

With all these somewhat recent "computer chess" internet folks building careers of online content (YouTube, TikTok, Twitch, etc), it is a disappointing that you, as one of the OG "chess computer" online personalities (with 10K posts here) has not achieved the same level of stardom. It is a shame that there is not recognition of the fact that a great deal of the computer engine analysis used today by the online streamers owes a large part of its linage dating back to the great programmers of the early dedicated units (which coincidentally, you are most likely the largest online advocate).

A man before his time regards,
Greg

Thanks Fern and Greg for your comments

Greg..i am humbled by your kind words but i dont really deserve any praise for my contributions to the hobby of collecting the old dedicated chess computers

i simply followed in the footsteps of the Legendary and Great Kurt Kispert(now deceased) who had the very first web-site dedicated to the old chess computers
i knew Kurt quite well and we traded several computers back and forth over the years

a condensed version of his site still exists today:

Thanks for sharing this link Steve. I learn something everyday on this forum. I especially found the "The Favorite Board Chess Computers of 1977 to 2000" to be interesting.

Respect to Kurt regards,
Greg
