Hiarcs vs Mchess Pro Challenge

Post by Alibaba »

hi,

as a Mchess Fan i started a tournament called "mchess vs best oldies" some time ago.
I play with the Mchess Versions
7.1 (from 1997)
8.0 (from 1998)
8.42 (a beta from 1999 not released)
8.70 (a beta from 2000 not released)

First round Mchess is playing with default settings
Finals Round each mchess version is playing with a special customer setting. I think with such settings mchess is nearly 50 Elo stronger...

Playing with 2 Computer
1.) AMD 2400 XP+ (Desktop)
2.) Intel M 1,6 Ghz (Laptop)

Benchmark shows that 2.) is 15% faster but this seems to be ok.
Mchess runs on 2.) with 60 MB Hash and the other programs on 1.) with 256 MB Hash.

Time controls:

1.) 40 moves in 100 min
2.) 40 moves in 60 min
3.) Rest in 20 min

or alternativ

3h per game

Each famous program famliy like the Hiarcs, Fritz, Shredder, Genius, Rebel etc will start with an old version. Like Hiarcs 7.32, Fritz 5.32 etc if this version fails it will be dropped by the next better version that i have. e.g, Hiarcs 7.32 will be replaced by hiarcvs 8....

Each program has to play vs each mchess version, if it cannot reach 2 points out of 4 games it fails and it will be dropped by a new Version...

I have seen many good games in the last weeks..vs Rebel, Nimzo Fritz etc
At this point the Hiarcs family enters the Tournament...

Hiarcs 7.32 played 2 good games vs Mchess 7.1, won both so it has the 2 point needed to play the next stage vs Mchess 8.0.

First game vs Mchess 8.0 was lost...second is played at the moment....looks like a draw.....

I have the Hiarcs Engines 7.32 / 8 / 9 / 10
What do you think which one will reach the final round?
By the way can anyone tell me what is the difference between this version? Is one Version more selective, or one better king safety..etc

If anyone wants to comment that games please contact me....it would by nice if we will get a good discussion here...

I will inform you here about the success of the Hiarcs family, for the coverage of the other engine families please have a look to the forum Schachcomputerwelt (it's in german)
http://schachcomputerwelt.foren-city.de ... sults.html

Now i wish the hiarcs family good luck against my mchess monsters :-))

Hiarcs 7.32 vs Mchess 8.0

Post by Alibaba »

Hi,

Hiarcs 7.32 played very well, after losing the first game, Hiarcs wins game 2 and 3 and played draw in the 4. Game.

So the resuld is

Hiarcs 7.32 vs Mchess 8.0
2,5 : 1,5

Congratulation to the hiarcs Team!

now hiarcs 7.32 enters the next stage... the first game of the Mchess 1999 Version 8.42 will be played on sunday 06. dec 7 pm

Mchess 8.42 has a tactial more dense search than Version 8.0 but i Version 8.0 looks deeper so we will see if this mchess version can stop Hiarcs 7.32. i think that Mchess 8.42 is about 10-20 Elo stronger 8.0

Mchess is playing like all others engines with it's one book, uses tablebases (but the old edvards format) and learning is on.

Please contact me if you want to see the notation of the games....

Hi all, I am also looking forward to seeing the results of this match. MChess
will get slaughtered, IMO.
However, about a year ago I had an online chat with Marty Hirsch and he
told me then there would be more MChess versions.Back in the early days
I had Genius2, one of the rivals of Mchess. They were expensive back then.
all the best
