is johan de koning there personally ?
and can you ask him about his program ?
since UBI-Soft is not telling us much about the engine it would be VERY interesting IMO to interview him about. he is not known to be a long-time-speaker, so you maybe have to press the information out of him.

can you ?

Hi,
is johan de koning there personally ?
Yes!
and can you ask him about his program ?
We chatted during the game. I do not think I have any new information.

It seems ChessMaster 11 will be released very soon probably in the next week.

The King engine will be MP but has only really been tested on a dual so he is not sure how it will perform on anything bigger.

One change he says he has made to the engine is that he has doubled the bonus for passed pawns in the midle game which he says is an improvement. The King certainly is playing better this year.

Sadly there is not a UCI version.

Best Wishes,

Harvey

Hiarcs x vs Hiarcs 11.2

Post by overtond »

Hi Harvey,

How does the Hiarcs you are using now compare to 11.2? Is there sufficient improvement to make this an 11.3 or even a 12?

I suppose the improvement is too big for 11.3. :D After all, it's not like 11.2 was the strongest version at the time it was released (or the 'What's new' section would say all the latest engine enhancements instead of minor engine enhancements).

what has happened to diep. very good performance, or ?
also the king.

of course we all expected hiarcs to be first or second.

but diep and the king were IMO interesting.

Hi Thor,

your request for an interview with Johan, about The king, may become a Hiarcs forum exclusive. I spoke to him today and he has asked me to pass on to you his phone number which I will do when I get home.

Best Wishes,

Harvey

How does the Hiarcs you are using now compare to 11.2? Is there sufficient improvement to make this an 11.3 or even a 12?
Hi David,

We have a nice improvement with the engine that finished 2nd in Leiden. However the work is not yet finished but I think we are getting close to Hiarcs 12.

Best Wishes,

Harvey

Hi Harvey,

Thanks for the information - have you started testing the new Hiarcs (12?) against the other top engines, such as, Zappa Mexico - if so, how is this looking? Do you have any analysis across the various phases (middle/end) or openings used?

Are you able to share any information on this?

Hi David,

Hiarcs 12 as an entity does not exist yet. Mark in some weeks will produce about 3 different beta versions for testing - we are currently at 11.93c I think. Each of these versions I will run a minimum of 504 games with. I have a 63 position test suite that I use - so that is 126 games so Hiarcs plays each position as Black and White. I run my tests on 4 machines currently against Rybka, Deep Shredder 11, Deep Fritz 10 and Zappa Mexico.

Any versions that perform well in these tests are then tested further and so the process goes on.

As for the results they are Top Secret

Best Wishes,

Harvey
