Steve,

I'd like to think the smashing product description and pictures contributed something to the final total, but I hereby acknowledge the contribution of this thread. The sale you reference was mine - the first thing I've ever sold on ebay. I shipped it to Spain today, packed in bubble wrap - final price was 580 USD. I wonder if the buyer is a member here. The item in question was referenced in this thread:

http://www.hiarcs.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4214

I'd acquired my own Designer 2265 in an earlier auction for 282 USD. It came in a somewhat shabby box, but it was beautiful internally. I kept that one, because I care less about packaging than some. I've been playing it, and it kicks my ass in a more entertaining way than the average Mephisto machine.

Trivia: the model I bought for 282 has brown and cream-colored pieces, which was sort of an interesting color scheme, but I kind of like it. The model I sold was in tremendous condition. It had black and white pieces, unopened, which I'm sure was a selling point.

I tried to provide an honest and thorough description, took pictures of the machine at work, the lingering gloss on the box, etc. I stumbled across this one by pure luck - purchased for 120, sold for 580 - not bad. I'll never get that lucky again, not that I'm in the hobby for profit. Still, the cash will come in handy as I pay for a new head gasket. Times are hard. One day, I'll find the Designer 2325.

Always jonesing,

- R.

Match has ended in a 0-12 loss for me.I almost go out with a bang against the master rated machine ,reaching a completely winning position in game 12 but lose due to time pressure and complications. One of the prettiest games I have ever played against man or machine:

[Event ""]
[Site ""]
[Date "2011.7.8"]
[Round "12"]
[White "RadioSmall"]
[Black "Designer 2265"]

Position before 16...Bxg2 (a mistake by Designer 2265 according to PC programs):

[fen]r2k4/pbppq2r/np2p1Bp/4Npp1/2PP4/P1P1P1P1/2Q2PP1/R3K2R[/fen]

Position Before 20.Rh8+ (although not a mistake 20.f3!! is even better!)

[fen]r2k4/pbpp2q1/np2p2R/4Npp1/2PP4/P1P1P1P1/2Q2P2/R3K3[/fen]

Position before 39.Qxd5?? (a time pressure mistake) I have at least a draw here:

[fen]1k6/p1p5/2Q5/3p1p2/2n3p1/P1P1P1P1/5r2/2K5[/fen]

Lessons learned:
1.Anti Computer chess is a myth , whoever plays better wins.
2.Dedicated Computer are not over rated as we sometimes read in forums ,as my USCF rating is about 1700 (and I have been playing computers for about 25 years) I should have scored at least one draw in this 12 game Match against 2265 USCF but did not.
3.Do not get into time pressure against computers!!

I wish to thank everybody who has been following the match and hopefully I will play a match against some other strong dedicated machine soon!!

Thanks RS for the games
very big of you to stick with it and post a match won 12-0 by the dedicated Computer
this certainly shows that it another thing entirely when one plays mano y mano against a dedicated computer or Engine with no help except their own brain

in this age of Pc Engines reaching 3000 Elo ..
my guess would be that most folks who imagine themselves strong OTB players ..by virtue of using their PC engines ..day in and day out ..for analysis or correspondence chess ..would probably get beaten severely by any dedicated computer rated at or near 1900 ..in a 10 game match . at casual chess .. not to even mention a match played under rated tournament conditions with clocks

Tip O The Hat To You Regards

I believe this is the only 12 game man v.s dedicated machine match in the last years on any forum under tournament conditions. This shows once more that dedicated chess machines are not over rated.

keep going RS
