i unexpectedly had a few free hours this afternoon and with the weather outside being pretty foul...i suppose i did what most collectors do at rare moments like this
...i randomly selected some old chess computers to see if they were still working...

2 Commodore Chess Mates..Both OK
Fidelity Prestige...RV,DM and CL keys not responding
(applied contact spray...now OK)
CXG Limited Edition ..OK
CXG Commander..OK
2 ChessMaster Puzzle computers..OK(after finally finding the right cell batteries)
Micro Games Chess Master...OK
Novag Super System Magnetic Pressure Sensory board-Sapphire II...
board will recognize the Sap II's moves but the Sap II will not recognize moves made on the board
(i could never get the Super System Distributor box to correctly work anyway )

I do a similar thing on occasion. The Novag machines in particular have
a mind of their own. Both my Connies gave trouble when I tried to power
them up, either nothing happening or odd lights here and there coming
on. I gave up and put them back, only to try them again a few months
later, and, guess what, they both worked fine.
The connie, super connie, Fidelity Elegance and SC9 are the machines
that take me back to the eighties. All others either had'nt been
manufactured yet or I could'nt afford them. A lot of chess computers I
frankly never heard of until I started collecting some years back. Australia
only had one importer to speak of, and if he did'nt see a need to import
a model, we did'nt get to hear about it.
I'm interested in trying some of that contact spray on some of mine,
especially the Elegance and the V9.
Enjoy your few free hours, time is one thing Americans never seem to
be able find enough of. Europeans are a bit that way too. Down here
we work to live, not live to work.
