Turbo King II

Post by IvenGO »

Hi all! Finally I got this device with D+ programm and EGR-II, but before starting a regular use I want to ask about some technical moments:

1) the seller provides Saitek adapter 9V 300mA with it, but on TK's body its written 8V 100mA, so could there be a power overload to device? is it better to use HGN-5001?

2) I would like to remove EGR-II off it, so what I need to care except static electricity? which tools to use for or the fingers only will be enough?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Ivengo, Firstly, congrats on the TK2. Regarding your questions:
1. For years I've been running my TK1 on an adaptor with output
of 9v 500mA without any problems. One thing I do insist on with
adaptors is that they be "regulated". This means that when you
put a voltmeter on them, the reading will match what it says on
the adaptor itself. Check that your adaptor is regulated. Just my
opinion. With the current, that is, the mA, electronic
devices take what they need and leave the rest. But with voltage, the
device cops the full voltage, so be wary. The TK2 of course uses the
usual positive inner tip, not like the Novags, which use negative inner.
2. To remove the endgame rom, certainly do *not* just use your
fingers! The recommended way is to use the smallest screwdriver
you can find, and gently prise the ends up from the cradle a bit
at a time until it comes loose. The legs are easily broken! The rom
itself is in a difficult position to do this, though. So, what I do is
take the trouble to take the back off the chess computer. It does'nt
take long and it removes the risk of damage. You will want to
put the rom back in some day, or at least sell the machine complete
with a working rom. When you are handling the rom, try not to touch
the legs. Lift it with a finger at each end.
have fun with your TK2...

Hello Larry! Thank You for such clear explaining!

I made a scan of english part of manual: http://tempfile.ru/file/2423532
Monsenior Zanchetta may put it on his beautiful website please!

Also I found there is written in manual that processor is 65{C}02 and RAM is 16kb size - and its different to the information from here: http://www.schach-computer.info/wiki/in ... bo_King_II

...so where is correct?

Yesterday I started to adjust an opening library to increase the number of answers making by TK II when playing against e4 for black. So I add e5 and e6 replies; also d6 and Nf6 are planned... here is the first example game:

[Event "30min/game"]
[White "Zircon II"]
[Black "TurboKing D+"]
[Result "0-1"]
[ECO "C65"]

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Bc5 4. c3 Nf6 5. O-O a6 6. Bxc6 dxc6 7. Nxe5 Bd6 8.
Nc4 Be6 9. Nxd6+ Qxd6 10. Re1 Ng4 11. g3 Ne5 12. f4 Nd3 13. Re3 O-O 14. b3 c5
15. Qc2 Rad8 16. Bb2 Bh3 17. a4 Rfe8 18. Ba3 Qc6 19. Qd1 Rxe4 20. Ra2 Rxf4 21.
Qe2 Nf2 22. Rf3 Rxf3 23. d4 Rxg3+ 24. Kxf2 Rg2+ 25. Ke1 Rxe2+ 26. Rxe2 Qh1+ 27.
Kd2 Qxb1 0-1

P.S. By the way: how much can I get for EGR-II if put it for sale?

Just looked at the game...a nice slaughter by black!
Regarding the sale value of EGR, it's impossible to say. Ebay is
a fickle place, the only thing to do is try it. Why would you want to
sell it?
regards,
Larry
PS Excuse my ignorance, but what is the difference
between EGR1 and EGR2 ?

The variation chosen by black is counted as a bit risky and the game was full of mistakes from both sides: 5. ... a6 (?) > [ 0-0 ], 8. Nc4 (?) > [ Nf3 ] Be6 (?) > [ Bxh2 -+ ], 10. Re1 (?) > [ Qc2 ] etc., but Zircon II played too much passive and had been punished for that. Can anybody says does Scorpio 68000 play more active style?

Old EGR isnt compatible with D, D+ and D++ versions -> that's what is written in D-upgrade notation; really have no idea about the differences in content comparing to EGR-II.

Ehh.. I cant say that I strongly want to sell it, but I dont find it very useful. One spanish specialist wrote that it slows a general system perfomance because the access time is higher than for RAM chips.

Larry, do You know which RAM size has this model: 8 or 16kb?

Mini-matches (terms: 30min/game, 1.d4, d5 and 1.e4, e5 for both sides)

TurboKing D+ = Zircon II >> 2 : 2
TurboKing D+ = Polgar v1.5 >> 3 : 1

Next opponent will be RS2250XL

Another Spanish game played cause of enlarging of the opening library:

[Event "30min/game"]
[White "Polgar v1.5"]
[Black "TurboKing D+"]
[Result "0-1"]
[ECO "C64"]

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Bc5 4. c3 f5 5. d4 fxe4 6. dxc5 exf3 7. Qxf3 Nf6 8.
O-O O-O 9. Bg5 Qe7 10. b4 a5 11. Qd3 d6 12. cxd6 cxd6 13. Rd1 axb4 14. Bc4+ Be6
15. Bxe6+ Qxe6 16. c4 Qg4 17. Bc1 Qd4 18. Qxd4 Nxd4 19. a3 Rfc8 20. Bg5 Ne4 21.
Be7 Rxc4 22. f3 Nc3 23. Nxc3 bxc3 24. Bxd6 Nb3 25. Bxe5 c2 26. Rdc1 Re8 27. f4
Nxa1 28. Bxa1 Re1+ 29. Rxe1 c1=Q 30. Rxc1 Rxc1+ 31. Kf2 Rxa1 0-1

Sorry, no idea :(

Regarding enlarging the opening library of the Turbo King, I also
had no idea that could be done. Iven, I don't suppose you can quickly
give us an idea how to enlarge TK's opening book?
thanks in advance...

I meant that its already done, thats why for e4 it plays e5, e6, d6, Nf6 now...
Basic D+ replies only c5 or c6, so it was a bit boring before I add these moves to user-programmable library. Maybe I will also make some corrections, for example, in Spanish by black, because 3. ...., Bc5 variation seems to be risky.

This game shows how to make pressure on un-castled king.

[Event "30min/game"]
[White "TurboKing D+"]
[Black "Polgar v1.5"]
[Result "1-0"]
[ECO "C42"]

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. Nxe5 d6 4. Nxf7 Kxf7 5. d4 d5 6. e5 Ne4 7. Bd3 Nc6 8. c3
Qh4 9. O-O Ke8 10. Qb3 Ne7 11. f3 Ng5 12. Be3 a5 13. Nd2 c6 14. Qb6 Ng6 15. f4
Nf7 16. f5 Ne7 17. Qc7 a4 18. f6 gxf6 19. exf6 Ng6 20. Rfe1 Bd6 21. Bh6+ Nge5
22. Rxe5+ Nxe5 23. Qxd6 1-0

Goren, I hope you are not thinking the Turbo16K is the same as TurboKing.
