I'ld like input from others as regarding human like play.
I'm just a beginer, so I can't really tell that much, but if you have a high rating how human like do you feel the play is?
Could you tell you were playing a program if you did not know??
Thanks for input!

I am a bonafide patzer myself but I think I can sort of tell....soxthecat wrote:I'ld like input from others as regarding human like play.

For years Shredder was (IMO) the best engine to play against as it did not just make goofball errors and even the games I won felt like good games.
For the longest time (and I mean no disrespect) I always felt Haircs was too merciless at lower levels.
But so far (and it is only a few games) I think Hiarcs 14 is a good opponent to train against. The game play does not seem impossible to beat at lower levels nor does it seem to easy to beat.
That is the only way I can really tell.
For instance, Junior is not that good of an opponent (great analysis partner) but it just moves fast and asks for a draw at lower levels.
Shredder, and now Hiarcs have put real effort into making game play at ELO levels interesting, and as realistic as possible.

This is a game I played early today with Deep Hiarcs 14. Game was played in a 1 minute each side + 7 sec. increment for each move. Me and the engine were both Hiarcs rated 1717 when playing this game. Game finished as draw by mutual agreement. Hiarcs, every one knows him. Me, I am a 47 years old chess amateur, playing the game since 1978.
Question is: Do you know who is the man and who is the machine? If you are not sure about, this means the machine played an human like chess game.
