Does anybody know how hard it would be to set something up like this?

well you dont have to be a Nuclear Rocket Scientist to answer that question
:P
the Spahhire II could be bought together with the the Universal Chess Board
bundled the combined set was called the Sapphire II Deluxe
sold for about $600 brand new
Set up is a snap
not hard at all
Meca is trying to connect the Sap II to the Electronic Chess Board which came out before and is different then the Universal Chess Board..
setting the two up was a lot more glitchy
that's why they came out with the Universal Chess board
setup then became a snap

Actually not really all that rare
occasionally you will see a UCB on Ebay
far rarer is the Electronic CB that Meca is fiddling with
it was so glitchy Novag did not make them very long and switched over to the far more reliable UCB
even rarer then both of these boards is the Novag Tournament Sensory Board
a huge tournament sized auto sensory board that easily dwarfed any other wooden chess computer Novag released
it was supposed to work with the Super Vip and the Sapphire I
you needed a gadget called the Novag Distributor box to get them to work together
i could never do it

in fact the Tournament board is SO rare ..it is one of the few computers inducted into the hallowed halls of the 'Ultra Rare Hall Of Fame"
by the Dedicated Chess Computer Writers and Screen Actors Guild

The best Novag setup i had was the Sapphire 2 with printer and digital clock.

I used it with a Super Constellation first.

Thinking about it now - i am not sure that I had the Sapphire connected to all that.

It was too long ago. I still have my Novag Chess Clock. Printer is gone.

My question, was it the first Digital Chess Clock ?

When i brought it to tournament - no one wanted to use it - now digital is all that is used. i claimed that the Digital clock was better because you would know exactly how much time there was.

Ahead of my time at the time regards,
Dr. Q

I see you have visited the Ultra Rare Hall Of Fame
we do tend to get more visitors during the summer months
how did you like the concession stands?
i keep telling the hired help to wear plastic gloves when serving the fast foods but they dont always listen

anyway..

The R40 Along with the Peri Epsilon,TBS IV La Regence and a few others
are sequestered away from the main group and only brought out
for special pre-arranged viewings by appointment only
usually this is for Heads of State... Stars of Stage and Screen and of course for Famous Ball Players

NO Rap Artists Allowed Regards
