The Rev II arrived last night but not without incident
the UPS Guy demanded a $100 check for duty charges
I was not at home but my wife offered him cash or a credit card having no checks in her possession
he refused and was going to leave taking the computer with him
my wife called me quickly and I instructed her to knock him out cold when he turns his back, then bound and gag him until I get home from work
when I made it home I gave him his check and sent him on his way
The Board is magnificent..even more beautiful then the Rev I
The photos and Videos seen here and elsewhere on the net do not do it justice
the wood is imported from the ancient tree forests of the Basque region of Spain
the wooden pieces are handmade ,large, solid to the touch and heavy
Blue Tooth connection runs flawlessly
nice User Manual
The Phoenix Series Rev II comes pre-loaded with 9 Pc Engines and 18
Emulations!
the emulations can be adjusted to emulate various Motorola processors and speeds ranging from the 68000 12 MHz to the 68030 66 MHz
i shall begin the testing of the emulations in Earnest (must be very painful for Earnest)at their top speed to see the speed-ups achieved over the normal modules and the Rev I
Emulating Earnest Regards

I also have the DGT Timeless piece set that came with the DGT Serial board and XL Clock I received as a gift years ago
the set works perfectly with the Rev II

I've thought about getting a DGT Classic piece set as my spare, but I'm not so sure about having ebonized pieces.Steve B wrote:Classic Setsje wrote:Which piece set did you get?Steve B wrote:the pieces are large, solid to the touch and heavy

The default DGT Timeless set has natural color, but the piece styling is not exactly what I prefer.

the same set he shows in the video with the red pieces(Eastern Style)
I usually don't care for non-Staunton style sets but it I was in the mood for something special to accompany the Rev ll and the unique design was very appealing to me
the set is supposed to arrive before the Holidays
We Shall See Regards

Congratulations Steve on being one of the very first! The RevII is an astounding creation by any measure. What I find so great about it is the preservation of the best of the engines in a grand design that will make one want to play them all over again. And I like that Classic set.
Btw, if you get charged with assault by that UPS guy, there is a little known clause in the law that absolves anyone who takes any necessary forceful action if someone tries to deprive them of their Phoenix Systems Revelation II!
I Bet You Will Be Unavailable For The Next Week Regards,
Dave

he walks into my home with a huge box and then threatens to just turn around and drive away if he dosent get a check..no cash..no credit card..
a check and only a check
when I got home.. I untied him..removed the gag and revived him and I offered him the check as if he just asked for it
he was groggy and disorientated..must have had no recollection of what happened
he thanked me..seemed a bit confused..and stumbled out the door
I guess he was wondering why it was about 5 hrs later then when he first made the delivery
thanks DaveSirDave wrote:Congratulations Steve on being one of the very first! The RevII is an astounding creation by any measure. you hit the nail on the head!
the real allure for me are the emulations
even though I have all of the original modules I just love playing the old programs on more modern day dedicated chess computer equipment and at faster speeds
of course its nice to have the PC Engines as well
if not for the Phoenix line of chess computers I wouldn't really even have any modern day PC engines
Luddite Regards
Steve

I guess that would be the Glasgow Emulation Mikechesspcmac wrote:so whats the weakest/elo engine in the RUD REV II? MMIV? Polgar? The Baron?
Im just trying to see where and how Im going to start thinning the herd
Mike
even running on Steroids I doubt it would be over 1800 or so
none of the PC engines could really be called "weak"
Each One Stronger Then The Next Regards

Thanks Steve, really impressive results.
Could you let us know how the piece recognition works in play - is everything fast and responsive? Do you have to be careful when sliding pieces, or does normal natural movement of the pieces get recognised quickly and accurately?
Counting down the time until Ruud gets to the 40s...

Play is smooth and natural ...nicely responsive
you have to be a bit careful with captures ..if you make the capture/recapture too quickly the board can get a bit confused
whats really nice with the board is you can slide the pieces normally
usually this is a no-no for auto-sensory computers but with the Piece Recognition its a snap
setting up positions was also easy as pie
Smooth As Silk Regards
Steve
