Hi all,

London (Al) v Portorose (Helge)

After 34 moves we both agreed it looked a draw, then came the biggest blunder in this position:

White played 35. Bxc6+ ?? When Kf3 was a draw.

Portorose had the initiative throughout with a pawn advantage, but with opposite colored bishops could never really break down Almeria.

Hi all,

Portorose (Helge) v London (Al)

After 21 moves this position arose:

[fen]2k1r1r1/1p6/p1p1b1p1/2NpPp1p/1b1B1P2/6R1/PPP3PP/2KR4 w - - 4 22 [/fen]

White played 22. Nxb7

We both felt the Portorose had found a great move and would win easily. however London found a brilliant response and 14 moves later we were in an endgame with R+4p Vs B+6p, where crucially all of Blacks pawns were on the opposite colour than Whites Bishop, and Whites King was bad ...

[fen]r7/8/6p1/3kPp1p/5P2/1pBP4/1P4PP/1K6 w - - 2 36 [/fen]

The Portorose resigned 11 moves later, here is the game:

Today Nick and I played the 2nd round of Almeria against Portorose. After a boring opening with an early exchange of queens, the White King remained in the centre. Portos active game was winning pawns. Finally the Porto simply pushed the free pawn at the King's Wing while the white King was far away.

Hi,

as Helge just confessed, he played Revelation Portorose - I have to correct the ELO to 2160!

@participants: Did you play the original or an emulation?

Hi there,

like at the olympic games and doping - I will avoid further participation in computer chess tournaments - sorry that I did cheat other players - which I had actually not realized. Have fun and again sorry about that. Ignorance does not protect against punishment

Hi Helge,

Don't worry its not a big problem, the test was to play Lang's, and you played a 68,000 Lang, its not the end of the world! :)

Besides I have had a lot of fun chatting with you.

So hopefully you can join another tournament in the future.

Best regards
Nick

Hi Nick, hi folks,

of course you are right - I love to play and chat with incredibly nice and interesting people. I didn't look in the wiki-elo list (what I should have done).
I'm angry with myself. But it would be nice to move on to be honest.
Thank you for your kind words - maybe it's not the end of the world.
