I'd like to second the suggestion to make the highlight/arrow colors configurable. Since you can set precise RGB values for the light and dark squares in preferences, it's important to choose highlight colors that are complementary.

These could be fairly easily added to the existing color picker dialog, I would think.

Note that the new capability already introduces an ambiguity into the existing color-picker that threw me temporarily: That color picker talks about a "highlighted square" color, but that's a distinct use of highlighting from the new capability.

Being able to highlight a square is a great addition. However, it would also be additionally useful to be able put a symbol in a square rather than highlighting it.

Here's why: I want to indicate the "key squares" in an endgame analysis. They are 6 contiguous squares (e7, f7, g7, e8, f8, g8). When I try to indicate their "keyness" with highlighting, it looks like a patchwork of different colors (because a red highlight on a light square looks different than a red highlight on a dark square). If instead, I could put some standard symbol in each square instead, the problem would be fixed.

Standard symbols I've seen used for such board annotations are star, dot, "X", etc.

Drawing annotations on the board doesn't make the save game icon appear in the top right of the notation area like it does when you add other kinds of annotation.
