Unexplained moves

Post by Eric Wainwright »

I was reviewing a 10-game match between Hiarcs 14 vs Komodo 6 at time controls 60' + 30". In a loss to Komodo, Hiarcs seems to have experienced a curious meltdown in the middle of the game and then immediately resigned. Afterwards, I had Hiarcs analyze the last few moves of the game at 15" per move and it easily found better lines than the game. In the record below, move 38…Qa4 seems a little questionable, but then 39…Qd1 seems like an outright blunder. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Put simply HIARCS went wrong, Qa4 was a questionable move, maybe it was under some time pressure at that stage.

I have noticed HIARCS was not using its book and that is not going to help and will add to the time pressure. I assume you turned the book off.
Best wishes,
Mark
