I'll pick a draw.
HI Graham

what does your shiny new Palm Hiarcs think of the position?

Analytical Regards

Hi Steve,

I'm hoping to get the Palm set up this weekend, so not sure yet. I'm an amateur when it comes to setting up these things.

You're probably right Graham given that both computers will almost certainly not play the best chess in the endgame.....Given the 100elo disadvantage of the SD and that it's opening book ended earlier

a draw wouldn't be too bad regards

"a draw wouldn't be too bad regards"

I've thought that for some moves now, and so has BPL.

38.Kg3 Qc1
39.f4 g5
if 40. h4xg5 then h6xg5

Well it seems like i am hearing the faint murmerings of a draw from both sides
i leave that up to both of you but i can say that ResII is liking the White position after the conditional 40th move a great deal

I look up this position with a palm hiarcs an it played 40.fxg5 it says white is up by 1.53. If black does not exchange the queen it can fight for a draw.

WHOOPS!.....WRONG POSITION!!!

Sorry all, I put the white f pawn on f3 instead of f4 for
the analysis. Paul has not replied yet, but he can have the
choice of accepting my amended move or holding me to the
earlier f3 pawn position.
If he accepts, then BPL's next move is:

39.f4 Qd1

red faced regards

Don't worry Larry I accept the amended move :D Several times I've nearly posted the wrong position out of Arena myself so I know it's very easy to do!

The SD is just chewing on it's reply.........

As for a draw I think there's still life in the position yet for white so I won't be making or accepting any offers just yet :D I was just making the comment that given the rating/book disadvantage should we end up drawing later it would be no shame on the plucky SD.

Move to follow shortly.......

Soldiering on regards

OK, play continues.............

[fen]6k1/5p2/6pp/1p2P3/p1p2PPP/P1P1Q1K1/1P6/3q4 w - - 2 40 [/fen]

For a while the SD wanted to play h5 here which Hiarcs X54 believes is a much weaker alternative, so I quite pleased when it switched to Qe3 after 28 mins.....score is still over one at +1.07

For glory regards

Well done Men!
i am glad to see you sorted things out in true sportsman like fashion
i was slightly concerned that when i came here this morning i would be witnessing fisticuffs

Qe3 seems to be a fine move and just might be deserving of the coveted..!
eliminates bothersome checks from the black Q and supports the pawn advance

The SD has Much To Be Proud Of in this game...

Ok guys, we are back in business.
The slowness of some of my responses are to do with time zones. I get
a move in the dead of night when I'm about to retire.

39.f4 Qd1
40.Qe3 h5

score -0.33 for black depth 9/21
You can see BPL still does'nt see a problem. Time will tell.

No worries Larry, sometimes we hit a couple of moves with the timezones so it's swings and roundabouts at times......I think we've rattled through this game pretty quickly all things considered.

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.O-O Be7 6.Re1 b5 7.Bb3 O-O 8.c3 d5 9.exd5

39.f4 Qd1 40.Qe3 h5 41.gxh5 *

[fen]6k1/5p2/6p1/1p2P2P/p1p2P1P/P1P1Q1K1/1P6/3q4 w - - 0 41 [/fen]

Score is still +1

40.Qe3 h5
41.g4xh5 g6xh5

White might soon get a passed pawn, then it will get
interesting.
all the best

I think you're right Larry, the pressure is certainly on the BLP to defend...

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.O-O Be7 6.Re1 b5 7.Bb3 O-O 8.c3 d5 9.exd5
Nxd5 10.Nxe5 Nxe5 11.Rxe5 c6 12.d4 Bd6 13.Re2 Qh4 14.g3 Qh3 15.Nd2 Bf5 16.Ne4 Be7
17.f3 Bg6 18.Nf2 Qd7 19.Nd3 Bd6 20.Ne5 Bxe5 21.dxe5 Rad8 22.Qd4 Qe7 23.Qf2 c5 24.Be3
Nxe3 25.Rxe3 c4 26.Bc2 Bxc2 27.Qxc2 Rd5 28.Rae1 Rfd8 29.Qf2 R5d2 30.R3e2 Rxe2
31.Rxe2 Rd1+ 32.Re1 Qd7 33.Rxd1 Qxd1+ 34.Kg2 a5 35.a3 a4 36.g4 g6 37.h4 h6 38.Kg3 Qc1
39.f4 Qd1 40.Qe3 h5 41.gxh5 gxh5 42.Qf3 *

[fen]6k1/5p2/8/1p2P2p/p1p2P1P/P1P2QK1/1P6/3q4 w - - 1 42 [/fen]

Score on the SD is still just over one. It's completing 11ply in it's search but only getting through a few moves of the 12th ply. Just wish it would display it's selective depth

Best regards

Just thought I'd switch engines in Arena and let Rybka have a chew on the position, after 21 ply it scores the game as a draw! I've let it run on and even at 24 ply it's keeping the dead draw score.....

Can the BLP find the moves......... :?:
