The uci book you cant read. The advantage of it is that is portable and will run in any GUI. If you want to control it and make it play certain lines you can do this with a gui book eg. a ctg in CB. If you ant tit to play e4 make a ctg with 1.e4 in etc...

The details are in the readme file which is in the same folder as the engine. Basically the book has been moved to get around some Vista issues.
HIARCS Chess Application Data folder
------------------------------------
Files located here:
eg. "C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\HIARCS Chess" - on Microsoft Windows
Vista
eg. "C:\Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Application Data\HIARCS Chess" - on
Microsoft Windows XP and earlier.

HIARCS installs and creates the following data files in the Application Data
folder. These files are:
+ H12MPBook.hcs - Opening book for multi-processor Hiarcs engines
+ Hiarcs12MP.lrn - Position Learning for Hiarcs 12 multi-processor version
+ HiarcsMPPB07.lrn - Position Learning for Paderborn multi-processor version
+ H12MP.pgn - Autosave of games for Hiarcs 12 multi-processor version
+ HiarcsMPPB07.pgn - Autosave of games for Paderborn multi-processor version

+ H12SPBook.hcs - Opening book for single-processor Hiarcs engines
+ Hiarcs12SP.lrn - Position Learning for Hiarcs 12 single-processor version
+ HiarcsSPPB07.lrn - Position Learning for Paderborn single-processor version
+ H12SP.pgn - Autosave of games for Hiarcs 12 single-processor version
+ HiarcsSPPB07.pgn - Autosave of games for Paderborn single-processor version

yes right - he will have to go to the user name folder and tools display hidden etc... if they are not shown.

The reason they are moved there is because in Vista there are security issues with data not being allowed to be written back to the program files folder.
