proper platform for Palm Haircs

Post by Hetman »

Hi,

what is the suitable platform for P.Hiarcs - smartphone, Palmtop or Pocket PC.
Are there any ratinglist with performance of the chessprograms on such a devices. ie. Nokia 6630 etc.

by finding out the speed of the device you can decide how good it is.

e.g. if you have a mobile you should first find out if the mobile has PALM or symbian OS.

if not it runs the program as JAVA applet. which is 10 times slower or even more slower.

e.g. my palm tungsten t3 makes 400mhz and can be easily overclocked to 600 mhz.

my nokia3650 makes 100 mhz and has symbian OS.

so genius on the nokia and hiarcs on the palm.

with genius you can follow the link directly from the genius web site
http://www.chessgenius.com/

i would say genius is the best choice if you have a symbian mobile.

if you have a palm platform IMO hiarcs would be the strongest engine.

but alternatively you can also get genius / chesstiger and even openchess (with fruit) for the palm platform.

most important is the MHZ speed of the device.
if you have a mobile and you don't know how fast it is,
follow the link:

The best will be a Pocket PC, but Mark has troubles at this stage porting to PPC.Fastest Palm = 416 mhz(no overclocking).Fastest PPC=624 mhz(no overclocking).Good thing about PPC is that there are still new ones being made.Get a 2nd hand palm and hope that the battery has not had it.Also the mhz does not tell the whole story, there are different architectures of processors eg Arm,Xscale,Omap and different types at the same speed can give different performance.Another consideration is the available Ram.

Hi,

I have Tungsten E, OMAP. It is without SD card.

Could someone tell me what are memory demands for Hiarcs and what for Genius ? I understand that they are differrent programs then PC ones.

both programs will run on your tungsten E.
the
126 MHz - RAM: 32 MB
are enough.
