at work now so the Quad is running 29...Nc5 on Zappa (after seeing the shootouts I am more inclined to trust Zappa in this end game, this is the first stage of the game where when I fed HIARCS moves Rybka's eval turned worse and when I fed Rybka's responses to HIARCS, HIARCS came back with different responses to that which made Rybka's eval turn even worse)Watchman wrote:That is just one line, as... rybka... well she is being very naughty at the moment: multiple 0.00 lines that will go slightly neg then back to 0.00. I am starting to get the feeling like I'm walking into a trap.Dark Horse wrote:Rob what was best for black on move 32 in your run with 29...Nc5 ? 32..d6 ?
Here is another example 29...Nc5 line: 30.Qe2 Ba6 31.Qe3 Ra8 32.Kh3 Qb2 33.e5 Bb7 34.Qd2 Qxd2 35.Rxd2
Whilst I've been exploring, I let quad zap sit on the 29...Qb2+ line at 31..Nc5 and just got a return which i'll post momentarily...
32.Nc3 Rb8 33.Bc2 Ra8 34.Rd4 Ra1 35.Bb1 Bc6 36.Rb4 Kf8 37.Kh3 Ra5
(-0.30) Depth: 26/61 07:22:55 66885mN, tb=11623
(Marlin will sit with the injured ranger at the aid station whilst I go after the bloody poachers in the Rover).
Edit No. 2: Harvey, i do have some work on that except that i branched with 36...Qh1. Your 36...Qf1 looks scarier (why did i go to bed last nite thinking 29.Kh2 seemed possible?).

doesnt this transpose into the Bxd3 Qxd4+ Kh2 line ? so should we play 31.Qe2 instead of 31.Kh3 (3.Kh3 in Harvey's quoted line) or am I missing something in the move order change?Harvey Williamson wrote:I was quite liking Rob's Kh2 but can anyone improve on this line
1. Kh2 Qxd4! 2. Bxd3 Bc6 3. Kh3 Bxe4 4. Bxe4 Qxe4 5. Rxd7 Qh1+ 6. Kg4 Qc6 7. Rd2
Qc1 8. Qa5 Qf1! 9. Rd8 f5+ 10. Kg5 Qf3 11. Rxf8+ Kh7 12. Rh8+ Kxh8 13. Kg6 Qxg3+
14. Kf7 Kh7 15. Kxe6 Qg6+ *

I was checking this with Spike yesterday and as I tried different variations the eval went from -1.3 to -0.92. The positions I saw look safe, but we are getting into territory where tablebases do come into play and the proper path is sometimes counterintuitive.Harvey Williamson wrote:29. Bxd3 Qxd4+ 30. Kh2
now if 30...Bc6
31.f5!? and if you play through the variations I think they lead to a draw but need careful checking.
I agree that it needs careful checking.

Hi Team
I'm sorry my visits are a bit sporadic - I follow the game each day but can't always make time for it before the next move/s have been played!
Anyway 29.Bxd3 looks right doesn't it, and as everyone appears to be saying, if 29...Qxd4+ which looks to be their best, then it has to be 30.Kh2
Now we are anticipating 30...Bc6, which again seems their best
If 31.Kh3?! Bxe4 32.Bex4 Qxe4 (32.Bc2 Qe3 33.Bxe4 Qxe4 transposes to this a move later) 33.Rxd7 Qh1+ 34.Kg4 Qc6 35.Rd2 (forced, the rook needs to be able to get to h2 if Black plays f5+ Kh3 Qh1+) 35...Qc1 36.Qa5 (again forced) 36...Qh1 37.f5. This should be okay but Black can argue to play on as the carpers would possibly have a small advantage
If 31.Qe2 then 31...Rb8 seems best for Black, 32.Kh3 and now the only way for them to prolong the game looks to be 32...Rb2, hoping we'll do something silly with our queen, which we wont 33.Qh5=. So the 31.Qe2 line looks best to me at the moment
My vote is for 29.Bxd3 with the conditional, if Qxd4+ then 30.Kh2
Cheers - Eric

31...Ra8 may also be good.Eric Hallsworth wrote:

Looks like I am not the only one who would prefer a slower rate of play...Eric Hallsworth wrote:I'm sorry my visits are a bit sporadic - I follow the game each day but can't always make time for it before the next move/s have been played!
