Harvey - could you please enquire as to whether or not there are likely to be future public releases of SOS and Jonny?

Thanks, Graham.

He has no internet at his Hotel - the phones are rubbish also when i tried to talk to him earlier. As you can see he has been posting all the games in this thread so I am sure he will read it when he gets to the playing hall in the morning.

Hi Uri,

I note that on the Rybka forum the game has been played to a finish between Rybka and Hiarcs at 10+10 and was a draw!?

Best Wishes,

I think it was just another member who played the game out rather than those in Paderborn.

I looked at the game and really can't understand anybody being unhappy with a draw being agreed in the final position.

I applaud the brave decision to play a Scandinavian, especially the Qd6 line! 8)

Regards, Graham.

the scandinavian is a good opening to prepare against opponents with black.
especially the lines with Qd6. when i remember it right ossi weiner used it in the past to throw out opponents machines out of book in the dedicated chess computer times. we had many scandinavian games at this time.

i remember fidelity tried couple of games in almeria with 1.a3 against mephisto :-)

and mephisto very often played 1...d6 against 1.e4.
And in portorose mephisto changed e.g. to 1.b3 with white.

Here we have a fairy tale of the day after tomorrow....

Which is what Uri asked for:
I would like to know how commercial rybka does against the commercial hiarcs from the final position(I cannot check it because I do not have hiarcs)

Here you can see the Hiarcs game from round 3 which had a very deep Opening line. In this case the Najdorf Poisoned Pawn Variation has been played. Hiarcs was in book up to move 30. but then ClusterToga played a seemingly equalizing move that threw Hiarcs out of book: 30.... Qxc7

Here you can see the game:

Some more of the results from Round 3 so far:

Jonny vs. Rybka 0 : 1

Diep vs. IsiChess 1 :0

ParSOS vs. Gandalf and Deep Shredder vs. Spike are currently still playing and the results will be given later.

Referring to the questions from Graham I can say that much: I had a short talk with the author of Jonny (Johannes Zwanzger) and he told me that there first will be a release of Jonny, if he can give it a clear improvement. Information about ParSOS yet to come.

Kind regards so far,
Sebastian Boehme

In Round 4 Hiarcs got a draw as black against Spike.

It was our luckiest and also unluckiest draw so far.

Let me explain this briefly: Hiarcs got out of the opening slightly better but then produced some strange continuation:

20....Ng6 exchanging the knights but thus weakening the pawn structure in the long run by doubling the pawns can't have been a good idea is what both operators agreed on.

Later on Spike got quite a good advantage and seemed pressurizing with its pawn majority on the queenside, but somehow it made a strange move itsself first by 32. bxa5 giving up the promising connected passed pawn structure and later on by 39. Nxf5 allowing black to get rid of the doubled pawns on the kingside.

In the ongoing Spike produced further slightly strange moves and allowed Hiarcs back into the game with a strong kingside attack. Which in the end though wasn't strong enough to win the game.
But replay for yourself:
