My Best Game Of 2012

Post by Cyberchess »

This was my best game of 2012 or since. I was playing a Fischer clock 20:30 game with Deep Saros 3.5a_X64 running on my AMD quad core Phenom II 2.8GHZ CPU w/6GB RAM.

Deep Saros played the Caro-Kann Defense against me, and I chose the positional 3.Nd2 variation.

1.) e4 c6
2.) d4 d5
3.) Nd2 Nf6?! (Better was 3…de transposing into normal lines.)
4.) e5 Nd7
5.) Ndf3 c5
6.) c3 Nc6
7.) Bd3 cd
8.) cd Qa5+
9.) Bd2 Nb4
10.) Bb1 e6
11.) Ne2 ...

11.) … Be7
12.) O-O Qb5
13.) Nc3 Qc4
14.) Be3 Qa6 (3 consecutive queen moves and black hasn’t yet castled. The sweet aroma of silicon blood fills the air!)
15.) a3 h6
16.) Ne1 Nb6

22.) Bxh6 Kf8 (forced)
23.) Bg5 f5

25.) Bg6

Thank you, Harvey.

The Star Trek chess scene in your avatar sure brings back some great memories. There was one episode in particular where Captain Kirk states that he programmed the computer for chess himself, and therefore should not have been able to obtain more than a draw.

We experimented with 3-d chess (3 tiered standard Lucite boards) in the ‘80s. I recall how we had to formulate special rules to prevent the king from escaping to other levels when faced with imminent checkmate. I still own a nice 3-d chess set, though it has long since been packed away in storage.

Regards,
John
