A Very Very Useful Site for Us, Folk....

Post by Fernando »

It is a spanish site where, between other things, they offer a list of the dedicated units that use the same program but differs in size, name, plastic, etc....
Each family of brothers is clustered toguether. Pity that although the guys over there recognize that between one brother and the other some changes can exist in RAM size, clock speed, book and bugs corrected or added, they does not give details about that. Even so, usefull.
It is this:

You will find some surprises....

Yes, it is an interesting site. I wonder what their source of information
is though... for example: Simultano = Radio Shack 2250XL ???
Not even the same programmer, and well over 200elo strength difference.

Still, it's ok for a general reference work.

Then, Larry it is NOT a good place to go.
Do you believe or know if there are other so monstrous mistakes over there?

No, no...your were right the first time, it is a GOOD place to go.
I ran my eye down the list and the Simultano entry caught my eye.
As for the cheap units, since I have no interest in them I can't judge.
I'm rather surprised that you only just became aware of the site,
especially since it is in your native language. It's one of the excellent
chess computer sites and I browse it occasionally, have done for ages.
As a piece of trivia, if you look down the "museo" list there is a Berlin
Professional. The computer you will see on your screen is in my
collection. I could tell by zooming in on a couple of very minor blemishes
both on the computer and on the owner's manual. I bought it a couple
of years ago. I needed a Berlin Pro non London to go with the Berlin
Pro London. I'm a bit eccentric, you know.

An even better clone list is from the year 2012:

This one is of course open to healthy debate. Note the
entries are clickable. Quite interesting stuff!

Another link well done bring them on i assume most people are like myself and have their browser setup to translate the site's into well for me English. Since i retired and can no longer afford to go out like i used to Chess for me as really taken off and living alone the computer option is great been lucky acquiring a nice very tidy Mephisto Exclusive MMIV which keeps me on my toes. I also find looking at other chess computers fascinating and i can understand why people collect them.
