Well congratulations on the Montreux.IvenGO wrote:Hello folks!
I got Montreux (128kb) several days ago + bought 4 x 512kb RAM planks for upgrade but would like to ask is there any practical reason (for increasing strength) to make it if I play only 30-60 min / game? Or this computer values more with original RAM size?
P.S. Past year got Star Diamond for 120euro and Atlanta for 150euro both in close to "as new" conditions
Great price you got on the Atlanta! You guys are kicking butt with your
purchases. Did you buy the Montreux privately? I did'nt see it on ebay.
Regarding strength with different RAM settings, you will not notice any
playing strength increase at your fast time controls until you enter endgames
with little material left on the board. But when it comes to setting up fun
endgame positions the difference in solving times between the standard
128kb and 2mb can be dramatic .
No surprise about Atlanta kicking Star Diamond's butt.
When you change RAM chips you must change the jumper settings. I
hope you know how to do this. If not then get back to us and we can
look up the site that deals with it. Don't mix ram chips of different
values...but having said this I can't explain the reason. Just what I heard.
have fun...
