How fast is your internet?
I'm getting really good ping times, but I'm wondering how my
download time compares. Try yours at:

Hi Jon, yep, I got hooked up a few months ago. On another forumMonsieur Plastique wrote: Larry, are you on the NBN yet? Your speed is insanely fast for our country.
friends around the world compared speeds. Mine is good for Oz, but
others in Europe and US can be quite a bit faster for downloads. Mine
seems to beat the crap out of everyone for ping time.
I did hear the Abbott Govt in it's cost cutting drive will be giving
future customers copper instead of fibre optic. This will give way
slower speeds.
My phone has got 4G connection, and it can be faster again, but
it's not a reliable speed. You can take a reading, eg, in a restaurant
and get lightning speed, then go back to that exact seat the next day
and get fairly slow speed. The wired connection is stable.
Might be an idea for you to get connected ASAP. Maybe ask your
connected neighbours what speed they are getting?
NBN certainly makes web surfing a nice experience.

Well it's pretty poor around here. I helped out my neighbours with their computer and their connection is even worse than mine. And I only live about 1200 metres from the local Campbelltown exchange. My mother has more than twice the speed that I do and she is further from her exchange (Narellan) and more "rural" than I am.Larry wrote:Maybe ask your

Luckily I don't really require high speeds as such since I mainly use the internet for news, forums, finance and banking. I restrict any videos to 480 as anything above that simply isn't possible.
I've looked at the NBN maps multiple times and the areas around me are "shaded" meaning they are currently being connected, but I guess because my estate is relatively new (established in 1997 and I built my house in 2001), they are prioritising the much older areas where the houses and infrastructure date from the 70s. Which is fair enough. Some people at Mt. Annan can't even get any decent broadband at all, so who am I to complain.

I suppose it boils down to bang for your buck, here in NZ I get this result for $75 NZ per month which gives 30 GB data and unlimited free local calling ( approx 40km radius). Don't really make much use of the speed as I just play online chess and send the odd email and check the low traffic websites.

For goodness sake..I am going to contact my ISP and ask for some sort of major discount. Or maybe ask them to pay me to use their internet This is ridiculous. D minus. Reminds me of being in one of the school cricket teams back in 1976. I was so bad they actually had to introduce a new letter for my team. The "H" team.
I am a complete failure Regards.
