Chess Computer Sore Losers

Post by Mike Watters »

What with Nick's CRUSH, SMASH and DESTROY, Brutus's Leonardos revenge and Fern's Travel Master Slaughter and Vicious Trick what this forum needs is a proper sore loser.

This one is from the 1980s.

Hi Mike,

It's a good story but I am not sure if it is a hoax or not. I just did a quick search in Yahoo under his name and I don't see any games from a Niko Gudkov?

Regards
Nick

Well, The Klute used to electrocute his opponents when he won, so on balance I don't see why an opponent that loses can't do the same. Fair's fair.
Chess is like painting the Mona Lisa whilst walking through a minefield.

Yes.

Trying to find out anything about Soviet Bloc chess computers leads to trawling through all sorts of stuff.

Have recently acquired two Bulgarian manufactured chess computers. Any ideas who the programmers could be?

Hi Bryan

Well the question was only meant to be a teaser really, like the rest of this thread, but here you go, who programmed these Bulgarian beauties -

Great research Bryan

Indeed the first one is one of Ron Nelson's. The Voice CC program in the extremely rare (outside Bulgaria) Izot U30M 1042C.
Which makes four Soviet Bloc chess computers with his programs so far -
SC-1, SC-2 (both CC10C, GDR), Intellect-02 (CC3, Russia) and Izot 1042C (VCC, Bulgaria).
It is probably fair to say that as the original author of the chess engine Ron Nelson is much more likely to turn up in a Soviet Bloc chess computer than in an Excalibur.

The other is the SPS Partner also from Bulgaria which seems to be a 100% 3MHz Fidelity Excellence copy, so one of Dan & Kathe Spracklen's.

Have added a few more comps to my Rare feature including the Bulgarians who now sit one and three on the list -
