Vancouver x EAG V9

Post by dedicate computers »

Hello all, Vancouver was playing well, in 30 minutes game, against EAG V9, however to my surprise, in the move 70 was fatal. Mate! What do you think about Vancouver? Elementary mistake or not?

Nice Game DC

my guess is that Whites 70.Ne5 was a ponder hit for the Van and short of time(after 70 moves in a 30 min. game) it blundered.
even when not short on time ..i find that many blunders made by chess computers are the results of ponder hits
anyway....

a diagram at move 70 is a must here:

BLACK TO MOVE
[fen]8/8/4B3/k1K1N3/p7/1p6/2n5/8 w - - 1 70[/fen]

70..a3 Regards

EAG x Vanc - 30 minutes

Post by dedicate computers »

What do you think, instead of making matches in 30 minutes, making matches in 30 seconds per move? We would have errors in this way? Well the correct move in 70... would be a3!
You are correct Steve.

You are correct Steve.
Well no matter how long the time control.. blunders will be made
30 Seconds Avg. would be better then a Game in 30 Min.for reducing gastronomic..game ending blunders
Selective Search magazine used a minimum of 1 Min./Avg.per move for rating chess computers
Its good rule of thumb that i personally follow

In A New York Minute Regards

Why don't you set up the position and see how long it takes to make the correct move?

Blunders

Yes Nick, but the game was draw, considering:
Van = motorola 68000 - while EAG motorola 68030 = V9.
I'll put the position and see how long Van takes to find the correct move.

The difference in ELO between the 68020 and the v9 68030 is Nearly 25 Elo.
The faster the machine gets the more it is obvious that the spracklen program is not making progress anymore.

a3 - correct move

Post by dedicate computers »

At the same level, giving take back until move 70, the Vancouver thinking again played a3, definitely the correct move. Now understand why played Ka6, honestly don't know.
