Game 9

They think its all over !!!...It is now.

And Conchess wins the match with an unspectacular win.
Seems the Olympiade has faster processor, but Conchess has the better programming...just my opinion.

Score now 3.5-5.5. with 1 game to go.

After the next and last game ,will it be possible to work out an est ELO for Olympiade ???.

Bill
Selective Search rates the Standard Conchess module 1426

for a previously unrated player playing his first 20 rated games the USCF uses the "Provisional" rating formula which awards 400 points above the opponents rating for a win ..the same rating for a draw and 400 less then the opponent for a loss
a score of 3.5-5.5 against an opponent rated 1426 would give the Olmpiade a provisional rating of 1336

if Olympiade :
wins the last game the provisional rating will be-1386
draws the last game the provisional rating will be-1346
loses the last game the provisional rating will be-1306

Thanks for the info there Steve,I've often wondered how this was worked out.
As a side issue what would happen if both machines already has a provisional ELO?

So ...to the final game. This match has been edge of the seat at times but this last game has the most ridiculous ending imaginable. Why ...how could programmers not include code for recognising 3 fold draws ......or any draws! :?

Conchess annihilated Olympiade in this game right up until the end....I very nearly resigned for Olympiade to save its face....

Here's the game....(if you have time ----play it through.....its crazy.)

So there it is .....Comments on any of this are welcome....has anybody seen a game on a dedicated so won......yet thrown away for a draw???

Final score is 4 - 6 to Conchess, and (thanks Steve) a provisional ELO for Olympiade of 1346.

I'm going to have to go for a lie down.....regards

Thanks for the match Bill
very well conducted and reported on

as to both players/computers being provisional
i cant answer that directly by way of a formula but i can say during a rated tournament the TD will always try to match up a provisional player with a player that has an established rating to try to get the provisional player an established rating of more then 20 games as soon as possible

1346 Regards
Steve
