Mattel Computer Chess's powerful saving move

Post by vonderlasa »

I just purchased this on eBay.
[Event "?"]
[Site "Wisconsin"]
[Date "2015.07.11"]
[Round "?"]
[White "Mattel Computer Chess Level 1"]
[Black "vonderlasa"]
[Result "0-1"]
[ECO "B33"]
[PlyCount "25"]

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 e5 6. Nf5 d5 7. Bd3 dxe4 8.
Bxe4 Qxd1+ 9. Kxd1 Nxe4 10. Nxe4 Bxf5 11. Re1 Rd8+ 12. Bd2 Be7 13. c4 and after this move it simply removed the black king from the board.
Nonetheless, I adjudicated the game as a win for black.

Further games showed that it will remove the black king and or queen at some point. Has anyone else noticed this behavior? There is some minor corrosion in the battery compartment, which I cleaned. I used fresh batteries.

Carbon strikes back
