Congratulations to Stefan Meyer-Kahlen on Shredder winning the WCSC. Shredder showed great tenacity in the WCSC tournament.

Commiserations to team Ginkgo who came so close only to have their hopes dashed.

It was interesting to see so many closely matched engines resulting in many draws.

Special thanks to Harvey Williamson who as usual operated HIARCS with great expertise and helped me with preparation ideas. Despite me being a bit absent with other issues this year, Harvey has always been there when he was needed and helped motivate me in recent weeks.

Thanks also to Eric and Christian for the tireless testing especially since Hiarcs 14.

While it did not quite work out as we had hoped, we took some risks and we learnt a lot and that can only help in the future.

Just preparing H for this tournament has pushed the MP search on in strength and the new evaluation showed glimpses of its new attacking potential. It is still work in progress but I hope you will all see the result at the end of the year.
Best wishes,
Mark

we will surely do. Perhaps a too much good result this time could have produced a feeling of elation which is dangerous to keep searching for better things.

We hope to enter Hiarcs in the next Leiden tournament which will be the weekend of 17/18th October.

It should be a really strong tournament as many of the players from the WC also hope to attend. Details will be announced at http://www.csvn.nl/

There is no doubt Hiarcs is one of the strongest chess software and most of the time in the top 5 and also has been WCCC champion and WCSC champion.

For sure the next Leiden tournament will be very interesting.
