For this ratinglist we can present two manually tested programs. First out is
Mark Uniacke's - Hiarcs Palm Chess Pro 13.1, which we have tested on the same
hardware as the 12.1-version, namely a Palm Tungsten T5. This handheld uses an
Intel XScale PXA270 processor at 416 MHz. After 103 games we have reached a
rating of 2657, about seven points higher than the 12.1 version.

Our other new entrant is Robert Hyatt's Pocket Fritz 4 Crafty 23, which we
have tested on our HP Ipaq 214 handheld. The rating after 120 played games is
2508. This Windows Mobile 6.0 handheld is powered by an Intel XScale PXA310
processor at 624 MHz. As Crafty 23 was released without an own book in the
Pocket Fritz 4-GUI, we have used Sedat Canbaz's opening book Perfect15.ctg.
This book was freely available at the time we started the testing in 2013, and
can be found on Rybka's homepage nowadays.

The programs tested on the Ipaq 214 and the Tungsten T5 probably marks the end
of any new testing on these handhelds, as even though it would have been very
interesting to see how any of the newest program would fare and compare on this
older and thoroughly tested hardware, no newer program has or seem to be
released for any of these platforms.
We will though continually use the tested programs as sparringpartners for any
newer testobject when it's appropriate, so the number of games for them will
most probably increase in the future.

Our next manual focus will be to have enough games with Ruud Martin's and
DGT's new Revelation II with Mark Uniacke's Hiarcs 14.1 program, and for our
dedicated oldie - Mephisto Nigel Short; which we never got to test back in the
golden age of dedicated chess computers.

For our Q6600-level we will shortly start testing the latest Stockfish version
and hopefully some other newer program.

The biggest gains from the last list was Pro Deo 1.86 A1200 with +18 points.
It still trails the former version (1.82), but the margin between them is
smaller now. Arasan 17.2 has lost the most, -22 points from the last list.

Next list will be out sometime in summer, exact time will be decided upon how
the testing goes and if any newer program is to be released and/or tested.

In this summer-ratinglist we can present a new leader on our ratinglist. It is
Stockfish 6, the program of Marco Costalba, Joona Kiiski and Tord Romstad.
After 536 played games it has reached a very impressive rating of 3334! The
difference in strength from our previously tested Stockfish 3 is +129 points!
The Stockfish opening book which we have used for the testing is the book by
Fauzi Dabat and is called "Aggressive 1.3 by Fauzi.abk". A very strong combined
perfomance by the team of Stockfish and openingbook maker Fauzi Dabat!

For our next list our main goal will be to have enough games with our ongoing
test of the latest Komodo-version and the Revelation II Hiarcs 14.1.
Our aim is to publish that list as soon as these two criterias are met, probably
in about 2 months time from now.

On our latest ratinglist we can present four new entrants. First out is
Komodo 9.1, the new leader on our list with a very strong rating of 3361
after 947 games! Komodo 9.1 is 92 points ahead of its former 7.0-version, a
mighty rating-increase by the team of Mark Lefler and Larry Kaufman.

We can also present the latest engine from Robert Hyatt - Crafty 25.0. It is
still early on in the testing, but after 170 games it has reached a respectable
rating of 3025. More games will be played though.

The third new entrant on the list is Pro Deo 2.0, also called Rebel 13.0 by
Ed Schroeder. We have tested Pro Deo 2.0 on our A1200-level and after the first
213 games its rating is 2787. This is 24 points ahead of the 1.86 version, but
it is still trailing the 1.82 version by 5 points. It will be interesting to
see which Pro Deo-version will come out on top when more games are played.

Last, but not definately least, is the strongest dedicated chess computer we
have tested so far - the Revelation II Hiarcs 14.1. The combination of Mark
Uniacke's latest Hiarcs program with Ruud Martin/DGT's awesome chesscomputer,
the Revelation II, is a match made in heaven for dedicated chesscomputerfans.
Its rating of 2929 after 128 manually played games are an amazing 156 points
ahead of the former king - the Revelation I Hiarcs 13.3!

For our next list, we will present one more manually tested computer,
the Mephisto Nigel Short, which we never had the chance of testing back in
the golden age of dedicated chesscomputers. It is very soon over the
necessary 100 games and will be guaranteed for the next list. We are also
testing the Revelation I Deep Sjeng 3.0 and the newly released Millenium
ChessGenius, but with 67 and 30 games, it isn't entirely sure if we will
have enough games when the next list is out.

The latest ratinglist features four new entrants. First out is Chiron 3.01,
a program designed by Ubaldo Andrea Farina. It's still early on in our
testing on the Q6600-level, but Chiron 3.01 has achieved a very respectable
rating of 3166 after the first 149 games! More games will of course follow.

The next new program is Ed Schroeder's - Pro Deo 2.1 YAT, which we have
tested on the A1200-level. Pro Deo 2.1 YAT is essentially a Pro Deo 2.0, but
with a huge opening book consisting of 150 million opening moves! We need
more games with both 2.0 and 2.1 YAT to be more confident about the
difference in rating, but for now the difference is 56 points between the
two versions and Pro Deo 2.1 YAT has reached a rating of 2858 after
240 games!

We can also present two new manually tested chess computers on the new list.
The first one is Revelation Deep Sjeng 3.0. It is Gian-Carlo Pascutto's
Deep Sjeng 3.0-program adapted for Ruud Martin's Revelation I machine.
It is the fourth program which we have tested on the Rev I/Res II-hardware,
and after 100 games its rating is 2599, which places it 30 points behind
the Revelation Rybka 2.2.

And we can now finally introduce the oldie Mephisto Nigel Short on our
list. It's a dedicated chess computer from 1993, which was sold by Mephisto
about the same time as Nigel Short and Garry Kasparov fought over the PCA
World Champion title in London. The Mephisto Nigel Short was programmed by
Ed Shroeder and it's an upgraded version of the Mephisto Milano. The rating
after the first 128 games is a rather impressive number of 1945! For the
moment it's rated 78 points higher than the Mephisto Milano! It has placed
itself 2 points above the Mephisto Polgar 10 MHz and the only 8-bit machine
which is rated higher than the Mephisto Nigel Short, is the Mephisto MM 4
Turbo-Kit, which bumped up the original 6502 5 MHz to 16 MHz. So far,
this makes the Mephisto Nigel Short the strongest non-overclocked 8-bit
chess computer we have ever tested for the ratinglist!

The latest ratinglist features two new entrants since the last time. The first
one marks a very strong comeback by Stefan Meyer-Kahlen. His latest version of
Deep Shredder 13 is now third on our ratinglist and with its rating of 3297
after 516 games, it is an impressive 194 points ahead of its former version,
the Deep Shredder 12!

Our other addition to the ratinglist, are a newly released dedicated chess
computer - namely the Millenium ChessGenius! It was released in the autumn of
2015 by the company Millenium GmbH. It features the ChessGenius program made
by Richard Lang and is powered by an ARM Cortex M4 processor at 48 MHz.
After the first 101 games, it is rated at 2069.

Since the last ratinglist, Chiron 3.01 has gained 14 points with 267 more
games played. Pro Deo 2.1 YAT lost 31 points since last time and even though
the Pro Deo 2.0 also lost some points, the gap between the two of them has
been reduced to 36 points. Revelation II Hiarcs 14.1 lost 16 points since
last time, mostly due to the performance in its meeting against Jonny 4.

We are at the moment testing several dedicated chesscomputers, which will
gain entry to the coming ratinglists of 2017, as soon as they pass the
necessary 100 games. Both newly released models (like the Revelation
Ruffian 2.1 and Millenium ChessGenius Pro), but probably also some "oldies"
(like the Mephisto London 68000 and 68020). We will also begin testing some
new engines on our Q6600-level for the upcoming ratinglists.

just noticed this
wow did that turn out low
when it first came out we were thinking along the lines of 2200 ish
CGPro is considered about 50 Pts stronger then the CG making it barely 2100
these numbers are a good 200 pts lower then what was believed

Sheesh Regards

Hello Steve,

the SSDF list was lowered 100 points (end of the 90s(?) due to the strong PCs), so the SS list and Schachcomputer Info lists are higher. F.e. look at the R30 2.5: SSDF 2272 ELO, SS 2389 ELO, .Info 2371 ELO.

So if you add 100 ELO to the ChessGenius you can compare it to the Selective Search anf Info lists.

Mixing regards

yes i know
still not so clear
for the old computers i know about the 100 pt difference
not so certain it has that much of an effect on newly released computers
depends on which computers the new one played against and if they played against newer computers
example....SSDF matches 5 newly released computers against each other
and against 5 computers that only played against recently released and rated computers .. there is no 100 reduction..the reduction i think would be somewhat less..perhaps significantly less?

On the Wiki list the CG has come out as 2218 for rapid and 2221 tournament so there is a significant difference to the Swedish rating. The CG Pro has 2307 for rapid and is likely to come out a little higher than this for tournament.

For me what is surprising is the relative distance between them.

Nigel Short - Info = 2028 = 231 Games +/- 40
MCG - Info = 2218 = 202 Games +/- 41

Difference 190 points

Nigel Short - SSDF = 1946 = 101 Games = +/- 71
MCG - SSDF = 2069 = 146 Games = +/- 54

Difference 125 points

I guess the 65 points strength difference between the two programs just about falls into the tolerance.

And it also depends on who you play to some degree.

The number of games are still low which could explain it, and it could also depend on the different time-controls between the two examples. The numbers from Schachcomputer.info are from their active ratinglist, with shorter time-controls than what we have used for our testing.

Please observe that the results for Mephisto Nigel Short in the long list isn't correct as the meeting vs. the nowadays incapacited Fidelity Mach IV (which only lived to play 17 testgames in my possession ), is listed twice and the number of games for Nigel is therefore not entirely correct. It is corrected so the results, and number of games, will be shown correctly on the next ratinglist.

Best regards

We can now present the early results from the testing on our new hardware
level - the AMD Ryzen 7 1800X, which is an 8-core processor at 3,6 GHz. We
have opted for 16 GB RAM as standard on this hardware - compared to 2 GB
on our older Q6600 hardware. Similar to the Q6600, we utilize a 64-bit OS for
the testing. On our older hardware we had 5 piece Nalimov/Syzygy endgame
databases as standard. On this new platform we have chosen to also add 6 piece
Syzygy, installed on SSD, for the programs that are able to utilize it.

We started of by testing two programs which we already had tested on our older
Q6600 level: Mark Uniackes Deep Hiarcs 14 and Stefan Meyer-Kahlens Deep
Shredder 13. Deep Hiarcs 14 has reached the rating of 3207 after the first 280
games, while Deep Shredder 13 has a rating of 3385 after the first 360 games.
The difference in rating between the Q6600 and 1800X are +17 and +88 points
for these two programs. We will see what will happen as more games will be
played.

Topping our list, 21 points above Deep Shredder 13, is Komodo 11.01, which we
have tested on our 1800X hardware level. It's the first program on our
ratinglist to break the 3400-mark and Komodo 11.01 has got a rating of 3406
after the first 334 games! Congratulations to Mark Lefler and Larry Kaufman
for achieving this!

The fourth new entrant on the list is a very welcome comeback by the former
Zarkov-programmer - John Stanback, with his latest program Wasp 2.01. We have
started of by testing his program on our single processor, 32 bit hardware
level, the A1200. After 200 games his latest program has reached a rating just
shy of the 3000-mark by a mere 12 points. As it was released without any
opening-book, we have used the free 'Perfect 2017' book by Sedat Canbaz.
As Wasp is multi-processor capable, we will also test it on our other hardware
levels for upcoming lists.

The last new entrant on our latest ratinglist is the manually tested,
Millenium ChessGenius Pro dedicated chess computer. It is a faster version of
the already tested Millenium ChessGenius chess computer, with more memory and
an updated Modern opening book - which we have used for the testing. It was
released in the autumn of 2016 by the company Millenium GmbH. It includes the
program of Richard Lang and recieves its power from an ARM Cortex M4 processor
running at a frequency of 120 MHz. After 100 games it has recieved a rating of
2180, which is a good 103 points more than its former version!

For the upcoming lists we will get some more games with the newest additions,
but will also extend our testing on the 1800X with more programs. We have
started the testing of Komodo 11.01 on our Q6600 level and Wasp 2.01 on our
Q6600, and 1800X level. Hopefully we can also present a later Stockfish
version on our upcoming list. For the next list we will most probably have
enough games to be able to present the Chess Genius 3 for Android and
possibly also the Revelation Ruffian 2.1 dedicated chess computer.
We will shortly begin testing of the newest Millenium ChessGenius Exclusive
computer, but as it takes some time to reach our limit of 100 manual
testgames, it will most probably not have enough games before next year.

On our latest ratinglist we have a new leader! It's the Stockfish 8-program
by Tord Romstad, Marco Costalba and Joona Kiiski. As the program is released
without an own book, we have used the free opening book from Fauzi Dabat,
called "Aggressive 3.2 by Fauzi.abk". Even though it's early on, this
strong combination has achieved an impressive rating of 3436 after the first
202 played games! This is 37 points above Komodo 11.01 on second place, but
we will of course need to play more games to be able to shrink the error bars.

Another early bird is the Komodo 11.01-program by Larry Kaufman and
Mark Lefler, which we introduced on our Ryzen-hardware last time around.
We now have enough games to present an early rating for it on our Q6600-level.
With a rating of 3340 after the first 202 games, it still trails its older
9.1 program by 13 points. This relationship will probably be readjusted for
the next list as more games are played.

Since last time we have also included our formerly tested Wasp 2.01 by John
Stanback on both the Q6600 and the Ryzen 1800X hardware. On our Q6600 it has
reached a rating of 3068 after the first 320 games, and on the Ryzen hardware
it has achieved a rating of 3155 after 446 games. As we also have tested it
on our 32-bit, singlecore A1200-level, we can now compare it on three
different levels. Judging from our testing, it seems like the difference is
approximately 100 rating points per hardware level for this program.

Compared to our former ratinglist, Millenium ChessGenius and Deep Hiarcs 14
1800X gained 10 respectively 9 points. Wasp 2.01 A1200 lost 21 points, Deep
Shredder 13 1800X lost 11 and Komodo 11.01 1800X lost 8 points.

The next ratinglist will be released as soon as we have enough games to be
able to present one or more of the manually tested chess computers which we
test at the moment. They missed this list by a small margin, but hopefully
we will be able to present them in our next ratinglist which we hope to
release in March/April.

On our latest list we can present two new manually tested chess computers.
The first one are Richard Lang's ChessGenius 3, which we have tested on an
Android mobile phone, named ZTE Blade Apex 3. This mobile has an ARM Cortex-A53
Quad-core processor running at 1.3 GHz/core. As ChessGenius is a single-core
program, it has used one of these cores. Despite using only one of four cores,
it has achieved a strong rating of 2454 after the first 100 games. This is
just 26 points shy of being the strongest ChessGenius version we have ever
tested for the rating list, trailing the Genius 6.5 version which we tested
on PC.

The second new entrant on the rating list is the Revelation Ruffian which is
Per Ola Valfridsson's Ruffian 2.1 for Ruud Martin's Revelation 1 Chess
computer. The Revelation 1, which in it's modular form for the old Mephisto
chess computers also is named Resurrection 2, contain an Intel XScale PXA255
processor running at 500 MHz. On this hardware, and after its first 100 games,
the Revelation Ruffian 2.1 has achieved a rating of 2357. With this addition,
we have now tested most of the native engines contained in Ruud Martin's
versatile and strong Resurrection 1-2/Revelation 1 series of chess computers.
They span a range of approximately 400 rating points on the stronger
Revelation 1 hardware, and perhaps a range of 500-600 points if one would
include the untested engines on the Resurrection 1 chess computer.

The Rating list is also somewhat overhauled since last time. We have been
going through the computers and simplified, standardised and changed some
of the names so they are more uniform, less redundant and internationally
correct. We have opted to take away the memory-size from the names. It was
necessary for the Pentium MMX 200 MHz hardware level, and there it still
indicates the average size of the RAM on the computers used for the testing
of that specific program. From then on we have always used the same amount
of memory on all test machines.

We have also included hardware-information in the cases where it was
missing and decided to skip the MP designation, which we used to show that
we used all cores on our Q6600 and 1800X hardware levels. This is because
all programs we have tested on these two levels has been Multi processor
compatible. The x64 designation is still there, or missing, to show if the
program tested was 32 bit or 64 bit. A more complete review of all changes
can be found on our homepage https://ssdf.bosjo.net/list.htm together with
the information about our different hardware levels.

At the moment we are testing Stockfish 9 and will include it in our next
ratinglist which we hope to have ready by late summer/early autumn.
