Ok, not quite the come back, this was a draw! The game was getting nowhere fast.

In this game the SD continually showed a much higher evaluation for its position than the MCG was showing. I also had ChessGenius running on my tablet but despite its extra processing power could not 'see' the SD's advantage. Going by the score I might have thought the MCG was going to win. BAM, SD's evaluation was correct and surprised both Chess Genius programs! Another win for the SD as I resigned on behalf of the MCG. Black cannot prevent white from queening.

A short game of 41 moves and no hope for the MCG. Score now 4.5 each. Come on MCG, are you sleeping?

The final game and SD again shows superior position understanding. The MCG just got lost and SD totally outplayed it. I resigned here for the MCG.

Final score 5.5 v 4.5 for the SD! A surprise result for me but very interesting to watch. I realise 10 games is not really enough to determine the stronger machine, but it does show how good the SD is with its slower hardware. I could play 10 more games and the result could be very different. I probably wont be playing a 100 game match especially at this time control!

No problems Steve, I really enjoyed watching the match.

I think the MCG is very good considering its price, but better hardware is not always enough. I have seen ratings for the SD higher than 2120, more like 2170. I think it would be higher with the result against the MCG which seems to be given a rating of 2200+. Maybe the MCG is better at faster timer controls?

ChessGenius Millennium in WOOD ?

Post by hyppyp »

I've got a faulty Risc II module for my faithful exclusive board, tried to have it repaired, but it seems the processor is the problem and can't be replaced.

In search for a wooden replacement I spoke to some 'experts' in the field to gear that there actually will be a WOODEN version of the CGM this year for aroind 500 euro. No idea how reliable my sources are, but it will be worth the wait for sure!

Hi Yarc,

Thanx for your games :)
Tournament level is of course the best to test chesscomputers. But it takes a lot of time and patience...

Yes, much patience is required ;-)

I'm currently playing another 10 game match (same time control) between the MCG and Magellan. After four games the Magellan is ahead with 3 wins to 1 loss. I suspect the Magellan will win, but might be surprised again.

The Magellan is probably my strongest machine unless of course the MCG beats it. After this I think a match between the SD and Magellan is required, something I have not done before.

It will be very interesting to hear what the new machine will be like. I hope not just a wooden version of the MCG but with improved features and playing strength. Not that I can beat the current MCG ;-)

Yes, playing with a wooden chess set is a much better experience but I think you are probably correct in that the new MCG Pro will not be wood. I suspect they will be looking at cheaper pricing unless they want to challenge the Revelation machine, now that "wood" be interesting!

beating the Rev price would be a walk in the park
even with the recent collapse of the Euro the Rev II will still cost you close to 4 grand shipped
my guess is they could make a nice wooden MCG Pro Deluxe in a board the size of the Citrine for around 500 US

I was thinking more along the lines of if they challenged the Rev on performance and price. Now that would be exciting.
