Connecting USB DGT chess board on tablet

Post by Adam2000 »

Does anyone knows if this is possible?

I have a USB DGT Chessboard and i want to connect this to a tablet so i can play chess.

Any tablet will do:
Windows Tablet, Ipad or Android

And if this is possible what do i need?

I know there are several alternatives like picocess, rasbery pi and soon the DGT pi clock but this is not what i am looking for.

Hope there are some people that have experiance with this because on the DGT website is no information about this and you would expect that this would be the number one question.

THanks in advantage!

Hi Adam,

try "Fritz" or "Shredder" on your Windows tablet - both can communicate with a DGT board...

Connecting USB DGT chess board on tablet

Post by Adam2000 »

Hello blaubaer,

i have them both on my windows tablet.

The problem however is that if i connect using DGT RabbitPluggin it shows extra pieces out of no where.

See screenshot: http://prntscr.com/bse557

So i can not even try it.

I have windows 10 on my tablet. Any other suggestions?

Have you tried it also on an Android tablet.
Or do you know someone who did this?

Hello Adam,

Are you using a long cable?
Have you tried to use a powered USB hub?

You might need to adjust the sensitivity level on your DGT board.

Connecting USB DGT chess board on tablet

Post by Adam2000 »

Hello Ahmed,

yes i am using a long cable.

Problem is getting a shorter cable since i have an "Hirose usb" connection in my DGT board. (That is the version before the mini usb DGT boards) so these short cables are not sold.)

I think i don't need to adjust the sensitivity level on my DGT board because if i connect it to my PC it works fine.

One option someone told me is to replace the side panel with the "Hirose USB" connection with a new side panel with a normal mini USB input.

But would this solves the problem and will i be able to use it on a windows tablet?

At least i can buy a shorter cable :D

Where you able to connect your board to a tablet?

Thanks

Adam

Hello Adam,

Yes I tested it a year ago with a powered USB hub and worked with no issue.
Try to use a powered USB hub, it should solve your problem.

Connecting USB DGT chess board on tablet

Tried it but did not work

It makes a connection but does not find the board.

And it only shows one port. (com 1)

I tried it in all usb ports but without success.

Do you have a mini USB port or do you also have a Hirose USB?

I think that is the difference.

Hello Adam,

It doesn't matter which type of connector you are using.
Don't connect your tablet USB power cable on USB hub, it won't work.
You have to use something like this:

DGT boards are very emc (electromagnetic compatibility) sensitive. Once I had problems with a Navilock Qi charger near my Rev II board (with DGT chess men recognition technology) - see here

You need a clean environment - also cable length could be a problem...

No - on Android there's no application, as far as I know!
