A Sudden Realization...

Post by Fernando »

Following, due to my masochism, discussion about MGpro, his victories and defeats when pitted with other programs -I still do not see a game against one of you, guys- I have suddenly realized that all of you -and me too because I do have the previous, more humble genius- were utterly deceived.
Lets say the truth: Millenium sold us just an OLD PROGRAN by Lang, in fact and OBSOLETE ONE, but not a venerable piece of the past.

Every chess engine by Lang is by now obsolete. He abandoned almost all development years ago, or at most he has fitted his old programs to run in android devices and now in Millenium units.

Ok, we are precisely the kind of guys that by definition play obsolete programs, BUT the problem with Lang stuff is this: is NOT enough old and obsolete, but neither is new and state of the art. Genius Is an intermediate thing associated to old PC programs, NOT a venerable old piece of chess furniture. In my opinion a really old Lang program such as the used in La Regence would be and should be of more interest and value for us than any Genius version. We have been given a bastardly thing, a mix, a mixed race stuff, a sad and hungry street dog.

In fact, there is something deeply preposterous in getting a thing that under a cover of plastic just give us the same or similar stuff you can get for free from Ed srhoeder site, where he deliver old DOS stuff.

Would a car collector consider a piece of resistance an Honda of, say, 2001?

We have been duped regards
Fern

Fernando, do yourself a favor...never run for political office. You are
way too blunt. A politician knows how to tell someone to go to hell
in a way that will make them look forward to the trip.
The manufacturers of MCGP are reading this forum. Maybe it's better
to remark that while you wish them all the best with their product, you
have at this point, after consideration and factoring in personal financial
constraints, decided to delay indefinitely a purchase.
Not "we have been duped."

You are very right.
I nevertheless support Millenium. Better Lang than nothing....
