Here are the details of game 3/10 of my match between the MCGP and SD:

In this game they played the Ruy Lopez, Steinitz Defence deferred. The MCGP was out of book at move 7 and the SD at move 9:

Final position:
[fen]8/8/8/4kb2/2p2p2/5P1p/5N2/4K3 w - - 0 55[/fen]
The SD resigned here, at last!

The MCGP played well in this game, as it did in the previous. Not making any bad moves (not that I could see) and benefiting from SD's not so hot moves. The SD was helpless against the two pawn advance and really I should have resigned on behalf of the SD sooner.

Score now 2-1 to the MCGP.

Early days Regards

Here are details of game 4 of my 10 game match between MCGP and SD using the London book:

In this game they followed the Dutch, Classical variation. The SD was out of book at move 8 whilst the MCGP first went out of book at move 6, was back in at move 7 and finally out of book at move 8.

Final position:
[fen]3r4/8/2qn2k1/4Q3/2B5/R7/4PPK1/8 w - - 9 64[/fen]
The SD resigned here.

Another well played game by the MCGP. I think its trying to make up for the loss in game 1. In the end game stage with 40 to 50+ possible moves, the MCGP's greater processing speed certainly helped as it was looking 1 to 2 ply further ahead than the SD and certainly picking up on SD's weaker moves.

Current score is 3 - 1 to the MCGP.

Can the MCGP keep up the pace Regards

Game 5 of match between MCGP and SD:

In this game they played the Queens Gambit Declined, Lasker defence and both followed it for 14 moves. A long game which ended in the first draw of this match. As is usual for these machines mistakes were made and the advantage swung back and forth, especially in the end game. I had though that the MCGP was going to steal a win, it looked very promising for a while but alas missed the mark.

I declared it a draw here.

Current score 3.5 - 1.5 to the MCGP

Game 6 of my 10 game match between MCGP and SD:

In this game they followed the English, symmetrical, Modern line book opening and for the first time in this match the SD was out of book first at move 13 whilst the MCGP was out of book at move 15.

A longish game of 74 moves which looked very equal until later in the end game stage:

Final position:

The Stardiamond resigned here.

In this game the SD made some inferior moves in the end game which the MCGP took advantage of. Again, I believe the faster processor allowed to MCGP to see ahead an extra 1 to 2 ply over the SD that certainly made a difference in this game.

Current score 4.5 - 1.5 to the MCGP.

Will the SD catch up Regards

Well unless the SD catches up, which is possible, it does look this way. However, against another opponent it could be different again. I have a theory though, that the MCGP is better when it leaves a book opening sooner. I think the SD's knowledge is better suited to longer book openings. Get the SD out of book sooner and the MCGP's faster processing seems to help more especially in the end game.

Just a theory Regards

I think it depends on the opponent. Against the older stronger langs such as the Berlin Pro, the London, Vancouver etc the London book plays into their hands giving them the kind of quieter knowledge based strategic game that dosn t suit the strengths of the CG Pro. Against other opponents its strategic solid nature can be more advantageous. On the german site the Revelation Diablo essayed the Latvian gambit and got busted in 20 moves.
Having said all that I m guessing that the CG Pro may well be streaky and may well clock up longish sequences of wins as well as losses. So this match could change yet.

Well I did say against other opponents it could be different. The MCGP needs two ELO ratings, well it could have one I suppose of the average of London book and Human book games. But its still early enough that the SD could catch up, watch this space...

Game 8 of the match between the MCGP and SD using the London book:

In this game the computers followed the Ruy Lopez, Worrall Attack for 12 moves. The MCGP gained an early positional advantage and maintained a strong king-side attack that the SD could not defend against:

I waited for the Stardiamond to resign which it finally decided to do here!

A very good game for the MCGP, and its increased processing grunt showed itself here. Again, it was looking a good 2 ply further ahead most of the time in the end game.

Current match score: 6 - 2 to the MCGP.

By move 51 it was all over for the SD, but it's move here of R-G8 might have been considered as throwing the towel in. However, it was only looking 8 ply ahead, so could not 'see' that white could give up its queen and then a little later queen.

The SD could still make the result the same as the previous match! This would be a little disappointing after the run of success the MCGP has been enjoying.

Game 9 starting soon Regards

Finally, after suffering a loss of power to the Stardiamond (accidently knocked the power lead, aaargh!), after about 20 moves had been played, here is game 9 of my 10 game match using the London book. I got them to play the same opening so at least the game was similar if not identical, with the result ending in a draw by three-fold repetition:

They played the Ruy Lopez, Modern Steinitz Defence. The MCGP was out of book at move 11, the SD at move 13.

[Event "40m/2h London book"]

Final position:
[fen]6R1/5kR1/p7/1p6/1P3r1p/r6P/6PK/8 b - - 10 66[/fen]
Draw by 3-fold repetition.

Current score 6.5 - 2.5 to the MCGP.

I will start the final game very soon. Current performance might indicate the MCGP could win the final game. If it does this would give it a rating of 2366 in this match based on Selective Search's SD rating of 2173. If it loses the last game it's rating will be 2283.

Either way, it's performance is better than the first match apart from the loss in the first game. I will be looking back at that game after this match is over asking where the MCGP went wrong.

One more to go Regards Ray

Hello All,

This weekend was the user tournament in Kaufbeuren in Germany
I have played with the R30 version 2.23 in the A Group
It was a very strong group , and started with 3 out 3 ,then the next 5 games it only take 1.5 points so i ended at the 4th place
The Time management of the R30 30 min for entire game is not good to mine opinion . but ok , the mean key is to come together and see old friends after 6 years ,who welcome me very warm after all these years

Ok u want to know who die win of course

Well it is a bit a computer who is criticised lately on some forums

But with a score of 6,5 points out of 8 games in a very highly elo rated tournament with the comparators
Tasc R40 Gideon
Tasc R30 2.5
Tasc R30 2.23
Phoenix Reflection Lyon 120Mhz !
Meph Genius Londen 68030
Fidelity V11 66Mhz
Mysticum Roma TM on 40Mhz
Millennium Chess Genius Pro
Revalation Vancouver Emu
CT 800 a own build computer

But the WINNER is with 1 lose and 1 draw and 6 wins

the MILLENNIUM CHESS GENIUS PRO !!!!
2th the Reflextion Lyon 6 points
3th the R40 Gideon 5 points

Take that to the bank ! regards Hans

I had the big luck to play the MILLENNIUM CHESS GENIUS PRO. After 5 rounds 5 points! Some very exciting and aggressive games, worth seeing.

Then a draw against the Reflection Lyon (MCG Pro had advantages, then 3fold repetition) and in round 7 a clear loss against the R40 which played his best game in the tournament. That loss brought some tension back into the tournament because the Reflection, which had as 2nd on place been 1.5 points behind the MCG Pro, won his game so that the difference before the last round - round 8 - was only 1/2 a point.

Reflection Lyon won against the Revelation II Vancouver pretty fast, so the MCG Pro had to win his final game against the Mysticum Roma 40 MHz, too. MCG Pro won 2 pawns but did not play actively, only moving around trying to exchange the queens which the Mysticum avoided. 2 moves before the 50-moves-rule the MCG Pro decided to give up one of the 2 won pawns and after the exchange of the queens the connected passed pawns could no more be held by the Mysticum Roma. So the MCG Pro won the tournament.

Group A:
1. Millennium Chess Genius PRO 6.5 points out of 8 games
2. Reflection Lyon 120 MHz 6.0
3. TASC R40 Gideon Madrid 5.0
4. TASC R30 2.23 4.5
5. Mephisto Genius London 68030 4.0
5. TASC R30 2.5 4.0
7. CT 800 3.5
8. Fidelity Avantgarde V11 60 MHz 3.5
9. Revelation II Vancouver 2.5
10. Mysticum Roma 40 MHz 0.5

Group B:
1. Fidelity Sensory 9 CB 16 8 MHz 5.5 points out of 7
2. SciSys Turbostar 432 4.5
3. Radioshack 1900L 4.5
