"reincarnations" of Chess System Tal 2

Post by jarek »

Hello

I'd like to ask about known "reincarnations" of Chess System Tal 2.
They seem to be connected with Purple Software / Globalstar Software / AI Factory.

1. "Chess Champion" was reported to be CSTal clone in a few places, but here someone claims this is not true:
http://www.stmintz.com/ccc/index.php?id=274933

2. "Tournament Chess" was reported to be a close clone of CSTal.
See here: http://www.stmintz.com/ccc/index.php?id=320598
I have just purchased it at a bargain price and it seems true.
However, I need to test it on several positions and compare moves to original to be reasonably sure.

Note: There is a sequel called "Tournament Chess 2" but it uses a different engine called "Treebeard"

3. ChessTal

available online here:
http://www.thetradingcentre.com/chess-s ... windows-pc

I found this link on AI Factory webpage:
http://www.aifactory.co.uk/AIF_Games_Chess_Tal.htm

Can you confirm or decline the "clones" listed above?
or extend the list of potential "clones"?

thanks!

I would say the last 2 links under 3. Are others could be
CSTAL clones.

When Chris Whittington sold his company to purple software, they did many "products" with it.

Nobody really knows where and how they sold it.

A few months ago there was even a discussion in rybka forum where bob Hyatt claimed he had seen CSTAL sources CSTAL used parts of crafty.

Nobody knows what purple software did.
They went bancrupt and then the sources were sold again.

In the moment AI factory has the sources and the rights IMO.

I wonder how bob Hyatt came to the sources of CSTAL !
It seems somebody gave them to him. What a mess.

It would have been better if Chris would have continued development of
CSTAL III instead of selling the whole company to purple.

thanks for input, mclane.

Here is an interesting bit from Thorsten Czub about source codes:
http://www.stmintz.com/ccc/index.php?id=355063

Please tell me what are the existing and close clones of "Chess System Tal 2".

Thank you!

McLane,

I found your post on a German forum:
http://www.schachcomputer.info/forum/sh ... ostcount=6
Can you please confirm, that CSTal 1 is an overall better engine than CSTal 2? Better does not necessarily mean stronger, but perhaps more interesting.

Thank you!

P.S. I have just discovered your real name :D

The dos version has many many more features and database features and style features and more info about the program . Study the dos version.

Yes thank you.

One of the best things is that the dos version runs perfectly with
"Magic free dos" on all of my android devices, no matter if phone or tablet.

Hi Thorsten,

Interesting, but I cannot find it. Or do you mean "Magic Dosbox Free"?

Best regards, Paul

Yes. That's the name.

Runs perfectly. Just copy chess system tal into the internal memory of the mobile and show the dos app where it is.
Setup parameters and enjoy.

You can also tell the machine to run it at maximum speed.
