My friend:
It would be nice to compare Turbochess running in Dosbox with K-Chess elite, the commercial version of it developed by an Australian guy. TC probably runs lot faster but maybe K-chess has some improvements in the code...

I don't know if I have K-Chess Elite, I will have to see if I can get it.Fernando wrote:My friend:

Have you ever tried Kallisto v3.02 (Aegon 97?
Regarding Hiarcs Master 3 I have tried your original 3.1/2" disk that you sent me and 4 original disks that I have from Hiarcs Master 3. 5 original disks in total and no luck . Which is a shame as it would have been fun to see how it performs against the Rebels, Fritz and Genius's. And it would have been nice to see how much more improved Hiarcs 3 was when compared to Hiarcs 1.0.
Best regards
Best

Well, so is life....
Kallisto I have never had it.
K.chess can be got from internet easily. Even from the site. You can use it a good lapse of time without buying it.

Hi Fernando,
I've checked K-Chess vs Turbo-Chess. My first impression is that the calculation is very similar, but K-Chess is around 4 times faster,
if both are running not emulated. I'm not that surprised, because Turbo-Chess is a 16-bit compile and K-Chess is compiled with a more
efficient 32-bit compiler for better code optimization. The speed gain is roughly good for one additional ply, so K-Chess is clearly
stronger.
Efficient compiled regards.

Hello Fernando
I had to sort out the same issue. I assume you want to run the 3.02 version Nick wrote about.
It requires to be run from /KALLISTO directory. If not, the program can't find the EGAVGA.PIE file (pieces design) and aborts.
I do not use D-Fend but this is what I did with native DosBox (underlying in D-Fend), same solution should work (sorry I cannot check to be sure):
- create a directory where you are used to locate other old DOS programs and name it as you want; such as KALLISTO302 - feel free with this naming.
- create a sub-directory KALLISTO (mandatory name)
- create a .bat file; eg KALLISTO.BAT, at same level (in KALLISTO302 regarding my exemple name) including:
CD KALLISTO
AEGON97.EXE
- go down KALLISTO directory and unzip your files here
- use D-Fend to run KALLISTO.BAT from top directory.
This should create a root mount point to your top directory (the free name one) and the Kallisto program will be run from /KALLISTO directory thanks to the .bat commands.
Hope this helps,
Tibono

Hi Fernando,Fernando wrote:Thanks for all that but I do not know a shit about all that, bat, things, etc....so let us forget the all thing...
I used to know but I forgot, I do not care, I am fed up of battling these things.
Old man after all

It is easy, I just tried it on a different computer by copying the folder.
Your folder inside VirtualHD has to be called KALLISTO.
Inside KALLISTO you have to have all the stuff that you unzipped.
You have probably a KALLISTO folder inside a KALLISTO folder if you do that then the AEGON97.exe cannot work as it cannot find the files.
Make sure that KALLISTO programs are inside KALLISTO and not in a subdirectory. The only subdirectory that you should have is called "Partijen"
When you have done that use Aegon97.exe to start it. You don't need the bat file if you do it this way. It will be just like all the other programs you have. Only thing with Kallisto is that it does not like multiple subdirectories.
Best regards
Nick

It does not matter., Nic. In fact, it is sheer luck for me: one LESS program to lose with...spacious_mind wrote:I don't know what to say Fernando, it works on both my computersFernando wrote:It did not work, Nic. I used just one kallisto directory with the stuff inside and started it with aegon, but after the screen went black for a couple of seconds, I was sent again to the beginning.

Got it, Fernando.
Installed D-Fend to check how it works; default directory name is zip name and that hurts Kallisto as explained above.
Easy to manage with D-Fend:
- start with Add - Import archive file - navigate & select your zip file
- this opens a settings window. 'Profile name' & 'Subfolder of the game folder to store the game' initial values are the zip name. Change the subfolder name to Kallisto (eg remove Aegon 97 part)
- check ok to complete
- should work
- happily loose some more games
hope it works for you; kind regards
