I'm a dedicated chess computer nut and have been since the 1980's ,considering that in 1986 I paid £999 for a pressure sensor Fidelity Mach 4,I completely agree the value is better now than it ever has been, without harping on about the cost, chess certainly is in my opinion a game to be played preferably with wood, but plastic is O.K. over a proper board.

Investment Grade Chess computers
Hi Larry,Larry wrote:I just went to the Niggemann chess site in Germany at:
https://www.schachversand.de/startneue2.htm
and noticed that they say the initial production run of Millenium
Exclusives has sold out. They won't have any more until July
or so. This is good news... it shows us that the interest in the
dedicateds is alive and well. Maybe the buying chess public are
coming to the realization that chess is meant to be played three
dimensionally, ie, on a physical board with real pieces. Of course
a real wooden computer chess set also has furniture value. Factoring
in inflation, the value of top chess computers has never been better.
Larry
I like where you are going with this. I've told my wife for years that chess computers maybe a good investment...and I said it with a straight face.
Anyway....Larry, maybe we could develop an online class titled, "How to make money with investment grade dedicated chess computers."
Or maybe not....regards,
Dave

I have been receiving updates about my orderChessy wrote:

the shop even reversed the charge on my credit card until they can ship me the set
a very honorable business ..but it comes as no surprise .. because it turns out that the owner of the shop is also a collector of dedicated chess computers
Collector's Stick Together Regards

Interesting to see that TopSchach have taken 100 Euros off their price, they told me they'll have more stock in by the end of this week. The price difference between mainland Europe and the UK becomes even more striking.Scally wrote:spacious_mind wrote:Yesterday's exchange rates were as follows:
USA Cost = USD 604.00 = GBP 467.11 = Euro 538.87
Topschach.de = Euro 598.00 = GBP 518.42 = $670.27
UK Price = GBP 749.00 = Euro 863.98 = $968
Best regards
Hi Nick,
Thanks for the breakdown, very interesting.
So the guy selling a few of them on eBay at $599 plus $90 postage, seems more of a bargain now. Unfortunately if I order today, the delivery will be whilst I'm on a cruise. I will have a re-think when I'm back from my cruise.
Thanks again,
Al.

I received an email today from US Chess Federation Sales stating they are now carrying the MCGE with a "price match guarantee":
http://www.uscfsales.com/chess-computer ... 55dcfc5f1a
However, it is still $50 cheaper at Chess House (my favorite online chess shop):
https://www.chesshouse.com/collections/ ... -exclusive
In stock at both locations.
Must...Resist...Urge...To...Buy...Regards,
Greg

Hi,
I ordered now at Topschach for 498,-- Euro!
I had a long discussion with the owner - he is convinced that even 498,-- Euro is too much for the MCG Exclusive. He talks about very low material and production costs and the board made from very cheap chipboard, but the chessmen are made with good quality. Board recognition is realized with RFID technology. We talked about the pgn-software which is basic in his view but the new ChessGenius Exclusive DGT Board Emulator (shipped in August only for Topschach customers) should be really good and is allready working right now at almost 100%. With this software you can play with all chess programs that support DGT boards, you can play online with Fritz and ICC, LED support, live transmission of games into the internet and game analysis.
That sounds excellent!
I will keep you informed!
Enthusiastic Regards,
Michael

Good to hear Michael! Congrats with your Exclusive
I will admire those boards at Kaufbeuren, maybe somebody will trade one for my elusive Krypton Pioneer
Waiting for further price dropping regards,
Paul

I agree. I purchased the MCG, only to soon purchase the MCG Pro afterwards. These iterations are coming out faster than Tim Cook can pump out new iPhone models!paulwise3 wrote:Phew, the same goes for me, specially now topschach has lowered its price...fourthirty wrote: ...

Trying to be patient and see if there are additional engine options, or what the MCGE "Pro" will look like...

Hi Michael - this is really interesting. I've been trying to find out which technology is being used on the MCGE. I know DGT holds a patent on their LC tuning method, but I'm not sure if that patent has expired.blaubaer wrote:Board recognition is realized with RFID technology.
We use RFID in aviation - but for "macro" applications - such as tracking aircraft parts through a warehouse, scanning expiration dates on life vests in the cabin, etc.
This would be an interesting "micro" application of RFID.
Congrats on your new purchase!

Hi Greg,
Can't wait Regards, Michael
a couple of years ago I made some investigation on piece recognition with RFID - it was too expensive at the end...fourthirty wrote:Hi Michael - this is really interesting.
