K-Chess Elite

Post by Fernando »

I wonder if this windows program- K-chess Elite, has been tested or commented here. As we all know, it is an adaptation of Turbo chess, engine created by Danielsen long ago. The Australian company Ark Angels took it and enhanced it with a GUI and lot of very good features and perhaps also tweaked a bit the program itself. In any case I have played against it several times and I cannot agree with certain shallow judgments some people write in Internet -may of them probably never played it, but is a fashion to talk, sometimes, of "mass commercial" products to get an air of an expert- because I find it is pretty strong, stronger than Turbo, in fact faster at the very least, with 9-10 ply in middle game as norm in the search, good ending capabilities, etc.
OR maybe I have became so weak that anything looks to me as strong.
So, I ask your opinion.

In suspense regards

Sorry, but a shallow judgement is about all I can offer here. I once took
the time to download this program, which at the time I thought was written
by a fellow Australian, but was not impressed. As I remember the program
had an evaluation period, after which they wanted you to pay something.
That's the first problem. Nowadays strong chess programs are free, even
with a choice of interfaces. Now I learn that the Australian did not write
the program nor the interface, but just jazzed them up and held his hand
out for money.

well, certainly your comment is not shallow, but simply negative. I have seen too some early versions that do that, but not the one I have. BTW, I am not asking to purchase nor this or any other, it was just a comment about the program play, not about the greed or otherwise of the Australian company.
I hope next time you get a program from a fellow Australian you will be luckier.

I've compared Turbo-Chess and K-Chess. Apparently it's exactly the same engine but around 4 times
faster, that is fast enough for reaching one ply more. I would say it's the same program compiled
with a much more efficient compiler, than Turbo-Pascal 3. I'm not surprised, that a rather weak
program of 1985 is a serious opponent at nowadays speed for even stronger players.

Hi Fernando.
I used to play against KChess Elite 4.0.0.37.
In 2008, I was not able to win.My score Win-0/Draw-2/Loss-1.
This is a blitz 15 or 30 min.

Later in 2012 or 2013 I won this program.
I also tested, these are two games against Chessmind 0.82(Now CCRL Rating 2014).
http://www.computerchess.org.uk/ccrl/40 ... sMind_0_82
30 sec/move Win-1/Loss-1.

I think not less than 1900 CCRL and 2100 SSDF.It's approximately.
I have not found other tests.

A good program for amateurs and medium players.

I have additional sets of pieces for large monitors, optimal for 1440x900.May be interested.

Yes, interested, Thanks Volo. I believe too K-chess is worthy around 2000 Elo.
