# symbol in HIARCS engine analysis

Post by mwhoyle »

I was working through one of my games with the Analysis Explorer, and the HIARCS 14 engine added a "#" symbol to its evaluation:

#-10/56 27...Qb6+ 28.Kf1 cxb2 29.Qb3 b1=Q+ 30.Qxb1 Qxb1+ 31.Kf2 Qxc2+ 32.Ke3 Qxg2 33.e6 Nc7 34.Kd4 Qd2+ 35.Kc4 Bxe6+ 36.Kc5 Na6#

Can someone help me understand what it's indicating? I figured something about the possibility of mate in so many moves but was unclear...

THanks, Jim. So is it saying mate in X number of moves? That's what was kinda unclear.

Yes, it is saying that Black (as indicated by a negative number) will mate in 10 moves
