2008 Second Annual World Computer Rapid Chess Championships

Post by HPC »

We have scheduled the event for the weekend of June 21/22.
It is open to all authors or qualified operators world wide and
will be held on ICC.

Last year, we had 40 programs from 14 countries. HIARCS almost
tied Rybka for first which would have caused a playoff, but Alaric
produced an upset in the final round. I hope HIARCS will enter
again this year.

All is the same this year, except the TC is slightly different.
It is G/25 + 4. All info can be found here: http://www.taccl.org/ACCAWCRCC/2008ACCA ... WCRCC.html

2008 2nd Annual WCRCC

Post by HPC »

Only 4 weeks left to register.
With this mornings entrants, we currently have 17 entrants from 11
countries. As usual several will wait until the last two weeks to enter.
Based on questions ask and such, I'd guess we will have a tournament
about the same size as last year - 40 entrants from 14 countries.

Also, operators are allowed as long as I get email from the author which
authorizes the operator. If possible, the author or a team member
should be online as well. We have a few using this method this year.
Basically, the operator has better HW than the author.

RE: HIARCS has entered

Excellent. Based on some email, I expect several others plus about
5 more of last years top 10. Good luck to team HIARCS.

Please remember: Once the engine has started the game, the engine
must make all the decisions. You can make parameter changes between
rounds and even switch versions between rounds. Also, if the program
crashes and can't get back up, a version change is allowed to get it
back online.

It seems in their wisdom?! the Mainz 960 people have decided to have their qualifying tournament the same weekend as your tournament and also on icc. I wonder how you get a uci engine to play 960 on icc?!

Anyway Hiarcs will be playing in your tournament.

Good News and bad. The date of the 960 qualifier is now changed :)

The bad news is it is now on the same day as richard Pijl's 1st Programmers tournament the dates of which were announced a long time ago http://www.evonet.be/~rpijl/html/programmers_tour.html

Last year they invited 4 engines to Mainz to play a so called, FRC, world Championship which did not include the CCRL Ratings list leader at the time. This year they can't even read a calendar. Why it can't be an open tournament like all the other majors I really do not know. To quote the Livingston sponsors of Mainz when I contacted them last year, "A world championship should be open to all so that the best may win."

And this from Tord:
Not only that -- it is also on the same date as the IOPCCC (where Glaurung is playing). We have no less than three computer chess events taking place at the same time. It's frustrating that those who organize computer chess tournaments seem unable to communicate or check the calendar for upcoming computer chess events.
